Maintenance Items

MCS 2007 with 70K miles and manual. I have been trying to make a list of all maintenance items that need to be done and just cant seem to come up with a complete list .

Based on my research here on NAM, I came up with the following.
  1. Brake Fluid
  2. Air Filter
  3. Cabin Filter
  4. Spark Plugs
  5. Valve Cover Gasket

Now it looks like I forgot about serpentine belt replacement.

Can anyone think of what other items I may be missing. Greatly appreciated.

Check brake pads and rotors for wear.
Check struts for proper dampening or leakage.
Check coolant level often.
Intake/valve walnut shell blast cleaning if you feel the performance is off or are throwing codes. -- IMHO add an oil catch can if there is not one on your '07 yet.

How much does walnut shell cleaning cost? Is this something I can do myself? Reading on NAM, it seems this is done for carbon build up.

I will get a oil catch can. I think that's a good idea too.

isn't this overkill. coolant is for life, so are the fluids.

what are accessory drive belts?

This is probably dumb, but I don't see oil and oil filter on your list.
They are part of maint.

Is your list due to just recently purchasing the car? If so, add:
*battery
*wiper blades/arms
*find out what other warranty or maint. has been performed on the car such as
timing tensioner and thermostat replacement.

Oil info is on the right side of the page. Some of this is probably overkill; I just posted it for general informational purposes. This list is for 'pampered' cars...there is probably a lot of excess built into it.

I bought this car new.

From the list I would be in year 4

Ignition wires?
Coolant Hoses?
drive belts?
fluids?

I dont see any reason to replace them.

also fuel filters

Ignition wires are inexpensive, and can fail without warning, leaving you potentially stranded. After 4 years, I would have the coolant checked for discoloration tested for hi/low endpoints. I would check the condition of the hoses, and replace if any signs of wear are apparent. Drive belt should be changed at about 60k. If it fails, you're walking the rest of the way. Belt costs around $30 and not much labor time. You may choose not to do any of these things, and have no problems whatsoever. It's just a question of odds/statistics.

Is drive belt the same as serpentine belt?

where can I find ignition wires? I cant seem to find them . You do get MSD coil pack with wires and NGK plugs. But I dont want MSD coil pack, just the wires.

i was told by MINI and a specialist i take my car to that the coolant should be done every four years, brake fluid every two. the brakes will tell you when they need to be done on the sensors. spark plugs every sixty, o2 sensor at 120. belts need to be done as needed and fuel filter is lifetime unless you replace the fuel pump.oil change every 6. i think that was everything

Hmm whenever they wear out. That really depends on how you drive. I would replace the lower engine "torque mount" to something stiffer. It's a big improvement over stock. The front control arm bushings would be the next upgrade but it's a lot of work to get them out. I just replaced mine with Powerflex polyurethane bushings. My old ones had 52,000 miles on them and were still in relatively good shape. The Powerflex bushing feel is a big upgrade over the mushy stock bushings
