How do I keep armrest from sliding back????

I found some posts of people complaining about the stock armrest top sliding back during driving, but has anyone found a way to keep it clicked shut, short of gluing it shut? I still want to be able to slide it open to store things, but it drives me crazy that it moves back while I have my arm on it. Thanks for any help you can give me.

Mine does the same thing, kinda irritating but I've just learned to live with it.
Duct tape! Not.

The only time I knock it open is when I'm getting in the car, even then it is only about 10% of the time. I guess I just don't lean on it, otherwise.

My MA advised us against getting the stock/factory arm rest for that very reason but insisted in favor of the dealer-installed one. But the one at the dealer looked clunky and cheap so we went with the factory-installed one because it didn't look out of place. The way we avoid having it slide open is that we've never opened it. Not exactly the "approved" solution, but we found there's plenty of storage for things like wallets, iPods, glasses cases, etc. under the center stack, in the door sides, or along the plastic "tub" on either side of the parking brake handle (not to mention the glove box or the secret stash area).

Imagine that. LOL.
Actually, we had a Mini rally today and I was pondering affixing some velcro to the top front edge and lower front edge. Hard to explain but I have in figured out in my head. Maybe that would keep it shut until you need to open it?

You could get a big black rubber band... If you do it length ways it'd match the body stripes... And provide added grip to ya elbow!

This one doesn't slide. The problem with this model, however, is its tendency to turn up its nose at you and walk off with your iPhone.

Order the leather armrest cover from Redline Goods. Not only does it make your armrest look 100% better, but it makes it a lot harder for the armrest to open on its own. And while your at it, do the side armrests too- easy, and it makes the interior much nicer.

I have just the opposite problem with my 2012. It doesn't want to side back and is very hard to get it started... Doesn't bother me though, as I just use it for setting my arm on while driving. Only keep a couple writing pens in there and a few napkins.

That's the one I have. Came with my used '08 I bought.
Was this a Euro-model add-on, or available at the time of purchase here in the USA?

Since my '08 was used and pre-configured, I always wondered about this.

Love this style armrest btw.

Mine opens all the time as well. I've learned to live with it. My biggest gripe about it? It squeaks like crazy! Anyone else's squeak? That makes me even nuttier than the top sliding open.

I bought mine from the dealership in 09 after I bought my 07 used. I thought it was the normal armrest. I did not know that there was another one.

No squeak here, just slides open all the time. I've learned to live with it.
Not too big a deal. There are more irratating things in life like welfare that gets me going.
I'll probably really start something on that one. LOL

Here's what I did. I put too little rubber stick-on pieces on the top face of the the silver plastic part, in an area that the upper padded part slides against. this created just enough friction to keep it closed. Like these....just cut them to fit on the edge and put them about half way down the armrest.

I have an I phone and the whole mini connect setup which is really cool and entertaining ... butttt my MA said that in order to get MINI connect I had to get the arm rest, and the cradle is extra money so i never keep my phone in the arm rest ... I like that one porthos has cause it doesnt look awkward when vertical unlike the one we are all crying about ...

quick fix, since I dont use it at all i stuff it with paper and it sorta helps lol ...
