This is my second Mini and I have been just sick over this thing. I love the car and it is exactly what I want but I don't know if I can take another giant issue like this.
On the clutch issue, I had a discussion about it with Dave at DDMworks and the feedback he's gotten has been poor alignment between the engine and transmission due to the machined transmission face not being square with the engine. Very difficult to measure unless you have it apart already. Once apart, if you can get the mechanic to fixture a dial indicator on the input shaft, it should be easy to spot.
No idea what I'm going to do on mine yet.

Well , lets see if I can match you, or better ! ( 12 ALL4S) at 6,000 clutch /flywheel blew at stoplight stranding my wife and dog in a snow storm , at 8,000 front hub seal , at 16,000 another new clutch , water pump , and a lot of minor stuff. ( I was told to expect another clutch fail around 24,000 ). This sorry excuse for a car Mini is at the dealer, which is 200 miles one way, I have a worthless loaner non ALL4 that can not get up my driveway , so it sets unused under a pile of accumulating white stuff. I have had to rent a 4 x 4 twice now for a couple of weeks each time they "order parts "....
You may have me on the engine , but mine overheats, fan runs all the time, engine light comes on when it wants too. Like you , I will know more on Friday when I go to pick it up.I have lost all faith in Mini Cooper as being reliable, and for me living in a remote part of the US where the closest dealer is 200 miles away ,...well one way or the other this thing is going By-By. I want the dealer to do a buy back , we will see soon , I hope.
