R56 Problems with 2012 Models?
My 2/12 build MCS was reset to "next oil change in 15k" when I had it in for it's 1st MINI oil change (in October, at 14.9k miles. It had already had 2 changes in my garage.
No issues otherwise. They replaced the coolant sensor when it was in for the oil change, but it hadn't caused any problems.
Now at 17k miles, no issues at all. 34-35 mpg, typically, with the JCW tune on my MCS.

At 6800 miles (6 months since purchase) and everything fine until today when check engine light came on. I restarted car, checked the obvious (gas cap) but still have it. Seems to be running ok so guess I take a day off work and drive 70 miles to the dealer later this week. Never had this problem with my '07 so hope this is a one-time occurence.
I've got 13,000 miles on my 2012 MCS that I bought in June. I've since changed the oil twice and installed a few mods (see signature).
The only issue I've had is the campaign for cooling temperature sensor recall.
Other than that, I've been thrilled.

No recalls, which are safety items and are totally mandatory by federal law.
There are several "service bulletins" that affect 2012s. Most of them are of the form of "if you see symptom X then do procedure Y". The thermostat housing leak is a very common one.

my 2012 cms all4 gets dirty too fast and does not get 100 mpg!
seriously, one service bulletin, coolant temp sensor relocation/replacement ... i did not have any trouble before the SB was perfomed and non since ... 9 months and ~9,000 miles

No issues here with ~8k on the clock (delivery 2/15/12) except replacement of the coolant temp sensor when I had the oil changed at 7,500 miles.
The MCS is so much fun that I've (almost) forgotten that my 911sc is in the shop for some preventative maintenance and some other goodies
My 2012 R56 has 2300 miles on it, no problems that are attributable to the stock car, I do have one issue but it is strictly due to the after market items i installed(sprint booster, ECS add on module, and defenders of speed CAI) I have learned how to avoid the problem(which is; if the throttle is floored at wrong RPM engine goes into "limp home mode") No big deal, to correct, pull over, shut off engine and restart. so i don't floor it at that RPM, problem solved!
Mini has extended the warranty to 4 years 50k miles, any major issues will show up in that time. IF YOU ORDERED THE R56 "S", BE AWARE THE THE HEAT FROM THE TURBO CAN WARP THE HOOD SCOOP, there are companies out there, such as M7 that sell shields for the turbo that solve that problem.
Since mine is a lease car, as far as i am concerned it is trouble free.

Hard to believe that anyone would put up with that.
I bought my 2012 Mini Cooper S used in April of 2012 with ~5,000 miles on it. I am now at ~17,000. Problems so far: cooling temperature sensor recall performed, computer was overly sensitive (said i needed brakes replaced at 15,000 miles!), Flywheel fell apart which required replacement and a new clutch, and yesterday the car went into limp mode for no particular reason. I use this car mostly for commuting and have been keeping the RPM's under 3,000 to break in the new clutch. Needless to say, I haven't been beating on it. After the warranty is done I might be trading back to a more reliable Audi!
*edit* The car is 100% stock.

I just read through all 10 pages and am happy to see no issues with timing chains! I am in the market for a new MINI. My last MINI was a 2003. It will be fun to get back into one.
Is it safe to say the 2011+ MINIs don't have issues with the Timing chain and tensioner?
Most of the problems I have read about here have been minor.

I had a recall done on my 2011 MCS citing the timing tensioner. Other than that I've had my thermostat replaced. My car hasn't had any major issues besides the ridiculous sun visors had to be replaced and firewall issue.
2012 problems
I have 2012, now with 11k. 1st problem was broken driver side A pillar molding. 2nd problem was "goofy" problem with driver side window. 3rd problem was loose valve cover. 4th problem ( just noticed this weekend ) is paint flaking off right fog light area. First 3 problems were handled promptly by dealer. Paint issue I have not had chance to talk to dealer about yet.
Really all minor issues, all in all. What a great car to drive!

Glad to hear any problems with 2012 mcs are mostly minor. I am about to buy one myself with 28k miles.
I think the 2012 rides way better than the 2008 I almost bought. It is quieter when not pushing it and totally a beast when pushed and the exhaust pops when decelerating.

We are now at 16,000 miles and into our 2nd year of ownership. Other than an intermitent Check Engine Light, which has not recurred and didn't turn up as a fault code, we have had no mechancal problems. We did have two other minor problems -- the seam on the driver's seat back (nearest the door) pulled out and a new cover has been on order for about 6 months. We also have the dreaded hatch rattle which will be fixed when into the dealer for the second oil change in 3,000 miles.
We had to have our S towed to the dealer last night.
Half a check engine light and christmas tree lights popped up on my wife thur. morning.
Second time since we bought it.
The car is fixed and we pick it up tomorrow. The rude SW told my wife that they replaced a sensor and we need to keep the oil topped off.Said the oil has not been changed over a year which is not the case.
Will know more tomorrow.

Broken visor. They replaced only one and the next day the other broke.
Rattle in passenger door was window raise mechanism. Replaced because of Service Bulletin. Second door needs replaced...Service Bulletin.
Passenger door interior release broke...warranty fix.
Thermostat replaced....Service bulletin.
Rear taillight bulb.
Oil leak caused short......warranty fix.
Front crankshaft seal leak....warranty. I have only 30K on this R56. 2012 model year.

Let's see, my 2012 has had the ECU replaced at 5000 miles, a cracked spark plug at 7500 miles, a new clutch and flywheel at 18000 miles, and likely a new engine at 18700 miles after this weekend.
Aside from that it has been essentially trouble free.

You may have me on the engine , but mine overheats, fan runs all the time, engine light comes on when it wants too. Like you , I will know more on Friday when I go to pick it up.I have lost all faith in Mini Cooper as being reliable, and for me living in a remote part of the US where the closest dealer is 200 miles away ,...well one way or the other this thing is going By-By. I want the dealer to do a buy back , we will see soon , I hope.
