Navigation video playback

I'm new here and couldn't find the right thread for this, so help me out.

Does anyone know how to by-pass video playback so that it will play videos while driving (connect via ipod/iphone cables)?

If someone knows any existing thread, any link would be grateful.

It's bad enough we have a crapload of knucklers texting and driving, why not just watch TV too! Brilliant idea.

It's for my wife. Thank you.

Just get her the virtual 65" big screen glasses. Heck, most of the time my wife really doesn't want to see what I'm doing. Better she be engorssed in 65" of virtual "Emma" or something else soothing...

I have to first say I don't think that its such a good idea even if it is for the wife. There is a reason why all these distractions aren't for the front seat, and its because most people would be tempted to glace from time to time. My opinion is it has no place being in the front seat.

Personal opinions aside, I don't think there is going to be a simple solution to make this work. After market navigation units seem rather detached from the car itself so its usually properly dealing with the cable meant to be grounded while in park, so you ground it to the frame. The MINI head unit seems to know quite a bit about what is going on with the car. I don't think there is a simple solution for you.

Ignorant? Hardly. It's illegal, and for good reason. If you can't figure out why, then you shouldn't be calling anyone ignorant. Nor be a licensed driver.

It's possible on BMW by installing software (http://www.dvdinmotion.com/how-it-works, http://www.dension.com/product/bmw-v...n-enabler-tool). The MINI system is similar but not exactly the same, and someone would have to customize it specifically for MINI. The problem is that the marketplace for MINI with Nav is so small that vendors aren't motivated to do it.

I read somewhere (maybe on here) that the nav system has the ability to playback video, albeit in a safe manner. The European released Mini must be stationary with the parking brake engaged for video viewing.
Now, I does has dain bramage, but, this snipit I recall with clarity.

Thanks. I contacted dvdinmotion to see if they have any Mini's in development. They told me they are in the work and planning to have something ready when it's ready (who knows how long that could be..)

Hopefully something good comes out from it.

This is true for .US too. It will playback video on an iphone with the parking brake on. I am unsure if it would play a DVD.I don't think it would since the 2011 on up do not have a DVD drive

I thought I replied yesterday, but not showing up somehow...

Anyways, thanks for the info. I contacted dvdinmotion and they got back to me and was telling me that my model of Mini's Navi will work with their software. They will be sending me some diagnostic software that I can put into USB jumpdrive and stick into USB port in glove box. Once I send them the result, they will analyze it and let me know some detailed information and such.

Will keep you guys posted.

I have some Itunes video that play back in the same way as you play music from the Iphone. I have not been able to play back video from youtube or other video files on stored on the phone.

If the NTSB has it's way we won't even be able to talk hands-free on our cell phones while driving, let alone monitor Facebook, email, texts or view video while the vehicle is moving. Makes me wonder what might happen to MINI Connected or Ford Sync. An article in the WSJ yesterday looked at distracted driving and Ford Sync. Not to be overly dramatic, but the day may come when phones of all types aren't able to send or receive if they are moving at more than 10 or 15 mph. Certainly with all the gps functions on most phones, they would be capable of that now.
