Cargo Liner Question

Does anyone have a recommendation for a cargo liner to use in a MCS hard top/hatch back with the seats down? Thanks.

$250 to $500 seems a bit harsh to me. Once our car arrives (3 weeks?) we're going to try a tarp ($10) from Harbor Freight or a queen size fleece blanket ($20) from Bed, Bath & Beyond and make a pattern. We're mostly dog hauling so we'll probably make our liner out of fleece on the inside, something waterproof and durable on the outside, be nice if washable...I'm thinking we'll save a few bucks...if I just needed a quick way to protect the area and wasn't worried about tailored fit I'd just get a furniture movers pad or two from Harbor Freight.

I like the boot liner and liner extention! That could be good for my dogs.

Do the cargo nets still work with this liner?

Yes they do. I have one. If you look closely at the picture you will see a slot where the cargo net loop hooks to the frame.

The extension sure looks nice. How does it store?

From outmotoring's page: "Soft semi-flexible black plastic can be rolled for storage or left in place if desired." I could swear I've seen a post on NAM somewhere from someone who affixed it to the back of the seats so it stayed in place when the seats were up. That would be handy!

I have both the boot liner and extension. I take the extension out when I need to use the seats. If I'm not mistaken the extension is made for the r53's but works fine in the R56's. You can cut it slightly to get it to work with the seats up. I've just never taken the time to do it.

Yes, there are tabs to be cut out if you want to use the Nets, I chose not to so I've left the tabs in place!!

I actually hang up Molly's, our garage was built up with 2x4 shelving (before we moved in 8yrs ago this month), it actually has a hang rod in the center back of the garage!!

So then it's flexible enough to hang over a rod like a towel?

I made one out of a ribbed black vinyl rug runner, purchased at Lowe's for about $7. My yellow lab rides in the back and it keeps the dog hair off the interior just fine, and it looks good.

A 3'x4' piece fits my Clubman, with a few notches cut out, for the rear seat brackets and the back edge cut in a curve to match the shape of the back doors. You'd need even less vinyl for an R 56.

No, it is pretty stiff actually. I don't think you would want it too flexible, if you spill anything in the liner and you are careful enough you can pull it out and not have much residue left to clean up. I actually have an especially long hanger with clips to attach to the sides of the Liner, it hangs very nicely along with our Winter Outdoor Coats.

Trust me on the spillage, that's why I have the WeatherTech Floor Liners, just last week for what ever reason I carried my work coffee (16oz Starbucks w/handle) and forgot to tighten the lid, set it on the floor board and took off...yeah, spillage to the max!! Pulled over and was able to pull the passenger liner out without to much leakage, it was just Tea so no stickiness to clean up, but I was not happy!!

I was looking for a cargo liner for my R56 and I found a liner that I think is great and wanted to offer what I found to the Mini community. I was looking for an easy liner that I can just fold out when I need to protect the back of the seats when I have them down. Majority of the cargo liners I found appeared to be big, bulky and expensive. Too big to keep in your boot for those occasions you didn't anticipate needing back seat protection. This is foldable and easy to store in your boot. I will be using it in conjunction with the MINI boot liner for those everyday boot use. It's a Cargo Liner & Seat Protector by Drymate under $40. It's soft absorbent fabric with a rubber backing to prevent sliding. The rubber backing is also waterproof and it's lightweight, portable, durable & long lasting. Their documentation said….Use the fabric side up for most situations, especially for absorbency protection and day to day use. Use vinyl side up when hauling messy cargo where absorbency is not a problem, i.e. lawn and garden items, etc. You can then easily brush or shake off any material spilled while hauling. Any excess length can be folded under or you can trim to fit the contour of your cargo area. I purchased the small size (45" x 58") They also have a large (54" x 72") and Extra Large (54" x 84"). Not sure if the large or extra-large would be more suitable for the Clubman. I purchased it through Walmart supplied from wayfair.com.
