My 2012 MINI boot is making me crazy
My 2012 MINI boot is making me crazy.

I have yet to see rhyme or reason to how it operates.
For ex., if I unlock all doors from the inside toggle and then get out and go to open the boot, it's locked. If I hit the unlock 2-3 times, it locked sometimes.
And yet sometimes, if I don't press the open, it'll be unlocked.
I haven't bothered to create a log, so I admit that it could be user error, but so far it seems to have a mind of its own and is locked or unlocked based on no determinable criteria.
Anyone else experiencing this?

By default, my 2012 was programmed to only unlock the driver's door with the fob unless you pressed it several times. I was having this same problem until I re-programmed the car to unlock all doors with a single push, and now my boot unlocks with either a single push on the fob or with the interior unlock button. Hope that helps!

Also, mine is not set to auto-lock, mine has to be manually done.
But in regards to the boot, right now, I typically have to use the fob and choose the boot unlock button, tho it seems that sometimes unlocking from the inside works and sometimes the boot is unlocked for no apparent reason.

Thought I'd make one update. Seems my boot is unpredictable as I suspected.
I've noticed this week that I will open my boot to store my things before driving to work. When I arrive at work, my boot is still unlocked.
However, for whatever reason, doing the same on the way home (i.e.unlocking the boot to put in my things, then leaving it unlocked) the boot has been consistently locked when I arrive at home.
The only difference being that in the morning, I open the boot one extra time (I drop the children off at school and there backpacks are stored in the boot).
I guess it's not a big deal, and I wouldn't mind it so much if it was at least consistent, but it's definitely a bug!

No - it's unlocked, opens fine. If you have any clues, I'd appreciate knowing!
hmmm. honestly i am not sure, but you may want to try changing some of the settings on the car which is easy (like auto locking and one touch opening stuff like that) here is a website that has a video on how to do it.

How do you let the kids out to get their backpacks, just unlocking from inside? or unlocking doors?. The boot unlocked bit had me puzzled for sometime as well, but think I finally have it down, at least I usually know when its unlocked now
.
I found in the mornings I usually opened the boot by using the boot button on the key fob, top right button. This unlatches the boot but does NOT unlock it. By this I mean that the boot pops open, but if I close it I cannot manually open it as I never unlocked it.
If I press the top center key fob button twice to unlock all doors, then I can manually open the boot. Same for pressing the inside lock toggle, as long as both doors are unlocked then the boot can be open manually.
My MCS is set to automatically lock at 10MPH, and the unlock button opnly opens the driver door on 1st press, and all on 2 presses.

But your comments gave me a clue. I just thought of one thing I do differently in the afternoons.
In the morning I have to open all doors so the kids can get in—but in the afternoon, I only open the driver's door.
So perhaps that is the issue? Opening all doors unlocks the boot permanently?
If that's the case—it's very unintuitive—since I use the fob to open the boot as soon as I arrive at my car, I would expect that it would remain unlocked.
I will test asap and report back. Thanks for everyone's assistance so far.
Thanks - that sounds like a good suggestion - will look into that as well.
Well unlocking both doors seemed to do the trick. When I arrived home, the boot opened up.
The other thing I did was re-program it so both doors unlock with one press of the fob. So that should solve the problem completely.
Thanks to everyone for your excellent ideas and tips!

Maybe in the afternoon the trunk monkey is sleeping.

I do the same thing. For me I finally figured out that I do not unlock all the doors. It is all probably because I'm lazy.

This morning I was able to confirm again—programming all of the doors to unlock at the same time also permanently unlocks the boot.
Now a single press of the unlock button on the fob opens up everything and they stay opened until you lock it again.
That one mystified me for a while as well, until I noticed that the boot will open via the handle only if both doors are unlocked.
And actually, the "press once to unlock the driver's door and twice to unlock both doors" is the same routine we use with our '06 Ford Focus. So I just tried that through habit, and it worked.
