Do Xenon lights cause others to bright you?

I am getting ready to order a 2012 Cooper S Hardtop and am considering adding the Xenon option. A quick look over these forums suggests that, while not necessary, those with the Xenon lights love them and wouldn't go without them.

As my title suggests, the question I have is: does having the Xenon lights encourage drivers coming in the opposite direction to bright you because they mistakenly think you have your brights on?

Thanks for any info.

Chris

That's NOT been a problem for me. I had em on my '03 MCS and now the '10.

Like others, I wouldn't be without em!

In a year with my MINI I've never had anyone flash at me. The MINI's zenons are not very bright, so I guess the non zenons are really dim. My 350Z's zenons are MUCH brighter and wider field than the MINI and I've never in five years been flashed in that either. I'd love to have the 350Z zenons in my MINI. These are projector lights, so the lens aims the light below a set level with not so much light up high enough to bother on comming drivers.

A well thought factory xenon setup, with autolevelling, rarely puts the beam in an oncoming drivers eyes. Sometime when cresting a hill you might get a little, but it isn't for long. I have them in my 2009 MRS and can't remember the last time an oncoming driver flashed me like that.

They're brighter, but still aim below on coming drivers eyes.

This may be a tech problem solved. Not only do I not get brights flashed at me in my 07 with Xenon's, I don't recall getting blinded by other xenon's in the past few years. I do recall it happening a few years ago, pick up trucks seemed to be particularly bright in the past, but lately I can't remember an incident.

Could be advancing dementia... ;0)

X! X! X! Please excuse my spelling, I can't get it in my head that Xenon is not spelled with a Z. This is not the first time either. X! Yikes, only one M in coming. I need a drink so I can spell.

No problems with mine either. I haven't noticed any problems from oncoming Xenons either.

What ever you do, do not say something is gay if you ever comment on Motoringfile.com. I almost got threatened death for saying that the new Fiat 500's are gay. Funny thing is my gay friends say it all the time and don't care if I say it. But a bunch of uptight straight liberals went on the attach. Talk about being gay.....lol

I have them on my 2012 and have not had anyone flash me yet. I have read that non oem retrofits on many cars do cause op to flash because they do blind.

Our oem are designed with our mini's and do not cause a problem.

Being liberal is not a political term. Though it is quite often associated with the democratic party its still not entirely under their umbrella. Liberalism is an ideology. So before you start trying to tell me what I can say, please learn what it is you are talking about.

And thanks for looking out for other drivers on the road. Factory Xenons should be good, whats really distracting to other drivers are those hyper blues and super brights that have been put on a 15 year old vehicle without adjusting the aim of the beam.

Nope, will not waste my time responding to this.. A great Indy car driver just died. I'll be thinking of him rather than getting into political arguments. I'm out of this thread..

Calling something you don't like "gay" exposes you as moderately ignorant, or under 15 years old. Keep that BS to the YouTube comments pages or the bowels of 4Chan, where it belongs.

As for the original topic, I do get flashed occasionally, and when I do, I flash 'em right back. Would not get a car without them having had them, the xenons are a great option.
