Bad day in the MINI world.. Pictures included

So i was just involved in the first accident of my life and it of course it was not my fault.. but my mini took a pretty good blow.. This just happened a couple hours ago and I'm still pretty pissed of some lady pulling out of a driveway just smacked straight into me on the passenger side. Honestly i want the car to be totaled although its not likely. There is a lot of damage.. the entire right side of the car needs to be replaced..Everything including the hood the fender wheels etc.. but you guys can take a look for yourself..

who's your insurance carrier/who's the carrier of the person who hit you?
i know you're anxious but let them work with the bodyshop... this is the worst part, the waiting... make sure that wrist is OK too...

The good news is, your company will be working for you on this...and you still have transportation.. The bad news is you'll be doing a lot of waiting... i totally can sympathize. i was a basketcase over both my accidents, it's pretty nerve-wracking... but you'll get through it!

keep us posted..

You're from Cincinnati? I though your car looked familiar.

The repairs shouldn't hurt your resale that much...but nowadays, with Car Fax, the buyer can know everything.

And always remember, your MINI is...well mini. People just don't see us like they do larger cars. And she was probable talking on her cell phone or worse yet texting. I hope you always have your DRLs on. Every little bit of visibility helps.

Sorry to hear (and see) about your MINI. Glad you're OK. There really should be a "pain, suffering and aggravation" fee applied to that driver and every other driver like her.

On the plus side, it could be time for an aero kit. Doesn't look like the rear bumper was touched but the side and front were.

Glad you're okay. Looks like her car took the majority of the blow.

Check to see if you can go after diminished value on your car..When you sell it will make
a difference with trade in or selling outright.

Sorry to see your accident, but glad that you are ok. I lived in N.KY for 8 years and in that span I was rear ended 4 times, 3 of them in the same car that just kept getting fixed over and over again. I don't know what it is about down there, but I had bad luck with accidents.

I am thinking they will probably fix it, if they do then file a claim for deminished value. I never did that and I took a huge hit when selling my car even though only 1 of the 3 accidents were on the report.

edit: Apparently I am too slow lol

Carfax can be pretty useless...

I have a friend that nearly totalled his Acura RSX 3 times (each time the car honestly should have been totalled based on the amount of damage, but somehow it never was).....and not a single one of those accidents were reported to Carfax. Car even had frame damage. Car had a "clean Carfax"

To the OP though...based on the photos, I highly doubt that your car is totalled.

I checked into this already i have to have "proof" when i sell the car that i got less because it was wrecked... but here is my thing with the damage...

New paint all around because the hood is damaged and you can't paint a hood with out painting both sides.. new wheels.. at least 2 but i did those wheels myself i don't even know if they make those in white.. new front fender.. new door.. new rear panel..new front bumper new..headlight/ headlight covers.. new axel in the front... it doesn't look that bad in the picture but the front wheel is bent in about 45 degree angle.. and i haven't even taken a fine tooth comb through it.. but what i do know is BMWs are not cheap to repair

If the repair shop does not report, it will not show up. I think most dealership repair shops report accidents.

As mentioned earlier, file a diminished value claim. It may not be much but every penny helps. Be sure to get check on the car several times as well I have known shops to cut corners and ask for more money while shorting you. You also do not want to sign off on the car unless you have had time to totally go over it, my sister got screwed out of repairs on her 325 by not fully looking over it.

That hurts to see!

Take it to a quality shop, the insurance company can't tell you where to get it fixed.
Ask around about really good body shops that'll do a good job.

That's why I bought my MINI new. I was too scared of running into something that wasn't on the Carfax that might cost me big time later on. How does one know if the shop will report it if not affiliated with a dealership?

And speakng from experience, I could run around with my High beams on all day and morons would still pull right out infront of me.

Good luck getting your MINI back in one piece. Body shops can work miracles these days, especially since most dont use that eco friendly water based paints anymore !

i took it to the place where the BMw store recommends and they have good online reviews so it should be ok there isn't many places in cincinnati that even sell minis let alone repair them.. when my CEL came on i took it to literally 5 foreign repair shops and not one shop even had the equipment to check the codes
