R56 Bad day in the MINI world.. Pictures included
You're from Cincinnati? I though your car looked familiar.
The repairs shouldn't hurt your resale that much...but nowadays, with Car Fax, the buyer can know everything.
And always remember, your MINI is...well mini. People just don't see us like they do larger cars. And she was probable talking on her cell phone or worse yet texting. I hope you always have your DRLs on. Every little bit of visibility helps.

Meanwhile, I probably shouldn't be admitting this here on a MINI website, I started checking out used BMW 128i's and 135i's as well as Audi TT's on a number of websites. Not one single car in the scores I must've checked on CarFax listed a single accident. Plenty of unscheduled repairs likes lights, brakes, sensors, etc., but no collision repairs. Something seems fishy to me.
I just recently got my 2011 Justa Cooper back from $8000 worth of deer damage. I'm tempted to pay a few bucks just to see whether that repair appears in CarFax reports.
i was rear ended last year - this damage was $5,500 to repair... so you might be close to totaling out the Mini.
on a side note - if they don't total it out, i wouldn't plan on diminished value. I talked to 8 different people at the other driver's insurance value and they won't pay it unless you are actually selling your car and can prove the value is diminished (and for how much). It would truly require bringing in a lawyer to fight that battle for you. So knowing that, when they ask about compensating you, factor in some extra money when you negotiate your settlement price for the loss of value in the car.
good luck - i was in a Hyundai rental for 3 weeks and hated every minute of it.

I didn’t read all the posts so I apologize if something I mention has already been discussed. (just got back in from out of town, it’s late)
First, the car won’t total. Most states require 75% of the value of the car to total. I assure you you’re not anywhere near that. (unless there’s more than the pics show)
Second, The insurance (especially Nationwide) won’t pay for an all over job. Last year, we painted a 2010 Acura TSX that was rolled. Every panel (except the decklid) was damaged and Nationwide wouldn’t pay for an allover. They wrote it up to panel shoot it. (it’s cheaper for them)
Last, diminished value... I’m not going to go into a lengthy explanation but here’s the long and short of it.
First, most insurance companies only pay if you are the claimant, not the insured.
Second, the rule of thumb is 20% of the damage. I’ve had lawyers argue about this and rarely does it change. If you get 20%, take the money and run.
Thirdly. depreciation is based on the stigma that the car has now (because in most states you have to declare that your car was involved in an accident if you have more than 25% damage to the car or it’s under 5 years old. The law varies state to state but for the most part....) Anyway, once you declare to a dealership that the car has been wrecked, because of the “stigma” they will tell you it’s worth much less than the 20% I spoke of earlier.
I wouldn’t take it to heart, even if you received a value report from a dealership, the insurance company won’t use it.
Hope that helps, it’s been a long day, going to bed.
Mark
PS. Your damage would be an easy fix.
PSS. DO NOT USE A NATIONWIDE BLUE RIBBON SHOP! Find yourself an independent bodyshop that has great reviews and/or recommendations.
Work getting done by a dealer has nothing to do with repairs getting reported to carfax.
I’ll give you an example. I’m sure you guys have heard friends say they got a speeding ticket and their rates never went up, right? What happens is the DMV have a database that insurance companies can download info to update their information on their customers. If the insurance company does not take the time to review it, stuff gets missed.
Very similar with carfax. Bodyshops do not report damage.... most of the time, it’s insurance companies.

thanks for the input man but nationwide is my insurance company.. they are not paying for anything the accident wasn't my fault.. but i don't understand how the other post on here was considered 13k in damage and doesn't look even remotely close to the damage mine has.. also unless they can prove to me that there has been no internal damage done to the motor I'm not going to be happy

I highly doubt there is internal damage to the engine. (assuming you’re hoping so it gets totalled??)
If I can answer anything for you, don’t hesitate to ask.

It doesn’t really matter which insurance company, I was using Nationwide as an example. After almost 30 years of being in the bodyshop business, the rules haven’t changed much...lol.

idk I've never been in a wreck and I'm just frustrated with the way they want to handle this

Just because they are “repairing” a door doesn’t mean they are “bondo’ing” the part being repaired. A good bodyshop will straighten the sheetmetal and if repaired correctly, the amount of bondo in the panel is minimal.
If the bodyshop is reputable at all, they will argue with the adjuster and tell them it needs to be replaced. Ask your bodyshop what they think about it.
In my case, my door was damaged and the adjuster wrote it up to replace it... because I bought it back from the insurance company, I just repaired it.
Anyway, I would talk to the bodyshop first before contacting the insurance company. Most of the time, you’re not going to make any headway with an insurance adjuster, it’s better for the shop to discuss it with them.
HTH’s,
Mark
is this initial estimate from a bmw/mini approved repair? is this from yours or the at fault party's insurance estimate? definitely use your insurance if this is a low ball estimate from the other side. i would look at the repair estimate line by line and see where they want to use bondo or refurbished parts. good luck.
well i finally got my car back.. I'm very impressed with the work and the bod shop i got the work done at sure seems legit.. when the guy called me to tell me it was done i said.. now I've never really had to go through this.. lets say 6 months from now my right strut goes out or something is acting up... and before i could even finish he said you bring it right here and ill take care of it.. he said there is a reason were still in business were one of the only legit body shops left..ive never done any advertising and there is a reason people recommend us.. if you ever have any problems with the work we did you bring it right here and ill make it right..
I really felt this guy was being sincere and at least gives me some confidence that it was done correctly
