R56 My chick hates my car! Am i alone?
Okay guys, complete turn in fate since my last post. How about this for amazing- my girlfriend and I were talking about her car (2010 VW Golf) and she was talking about what terrible gas mileage she gets (19-25) and she was looking for alternative cars. So I jokingly said- what about a MINI? She looked and me and said - Okay, let's go to the dealership.
My face- :OOO
So we went, and instantly she saw a laser? blue R53 with white roof and fell in love. It's right around the same price as her VW and since she has driven it, she has been talking about it non-stop. Think she may be getting it sometime soon.
Might as well go ahead and propose...

It is like a movie. FIND YOUR TRUE LOVE!!! SOMEONE WHO LOVES MINIS TOO!!!
No but for real, good decision. "All women are crazy, it is just the amount of crazy you are willing to put up with."

That would bring a whole new meaning to the term "Mini meet"!
In other somewhat related news: (You should know cars are crazy-expensive in The Netherlands: a new base R56S costs about $45000)
My SO drives the car in my signature. It's her daily. I've been searching for a new (used) car, first she said "you can take my car, we'll get a small VW or something for me". After about a week she changed things around a little: "You can use my car, we'll get me a used Cooper". Today we test-drove a R56S JCW and she told me she wants to keep the R53 and that her Mini needs to be faster than mine :D

The OP made the right decision. I dated a girl back in 2004 that asked me if I'd leave her for a Porsche. I asked her what model she was thinking of (911? Boxster?). She started crying.
My wife will be the primary driver of the R56 justacooper. When she and I met she wasn't really into cars. I think I've converted her with plenty of spirited rides in the Bimmer I drive.
Plus, she's hotter than the ex.

It's funny how people form an instant opinion about the MINIs, even without ever driven one or heard anything about the cars... The responses I get are mostly negative... That is until I either toss them the keys or strap them in and scare a couple years off their life span...
My GF doesn't much care for the MINI, but she is really annoyed with my driving style as I tend to be a bit (lot) aggressive when in traffic... When she's scared, she grips to door pull, grits her teeth and doesn't say anything... When she is really scared, she closes her eyes and puts her feet on the dash... Somehow I don't think she is going to make the cut...

Yea, I agree, I usually get some variation of "so how do you like your chick car?" to which my answer is usually "well why dont you bring out your "manly" car and we'll see who goes home with their tail between their legs." Havent had to wear tail very much. LOL.
So shes doin the door handle n dashboard thing, huh?
Well, she might be okay, mine used to as well but I married her anyway. It lasted 14 yrs. Que Sera ..........

That is how my boyfriend usually is with his Evo. But in all fairness, I'm the same way with my cars. We both probably spend more quality time with our cars than each other.
I'm totally okay with this.

Great thread. I think the last time I bothered to count, I had owned about three dozen cars (and three motorcycles) in my life. Just about every one was bought with a heavy consideration to what OTHER people would think of it, or of me driving it. There was the Saab phase, the BMW phase, the Audi phase, the Jaguar phase, the Jeep phase, the Harley phase, the VW phase. LOL.
I have to say the MINI is the first car, after all the rest, that I bought for me -- without giving a flying **** what the neighbor, the kids (now grown), the co-workers or the stranger on the highway thinks of it.
I love this car!
It's my way of thumbing my nose at people who want me to be what they expect me to be.

All I can do is give my personal experience. I met my wife when i was 18 and she was 17. At that time I owned a 49 Chevy club coupe with a 56 Vette motor. We married 3 years later and have been together for well over 55 years ( married almost 52 of them). I've owned/built classic Mustangs, Corvettes, and totally built a 1929 model A street rod during this time. My beautiful wife has helped me work on my cars and has gone all over the country to rod runs and car events.
We bought our Mini S 3 months ago and she's excited with it, just as I am. IMHO, if you're truly a real car guy, better find a "car gal" to share your life with. I did, and I've lived a blessed life! Good luck.

My Ex Boyfriend didnt really understand my love on MINIS. Always thought i was crazy for wanting one and the fact that I went to the dragon and other MINI events.
NEW Boyfriend it GREAT he doesnt like like the MINI thinks i could have a better faster car. But is soooo willing to go to the dragon with me, always wants to help me change things on it, and always tries to get it to be a MORE AWESOME MINI. I think he is a keeper
It is great having a supportive boyfriend when it comes to something you love =)
