What an idiot, I waved with my elbow... LOL.

I always make a habit of giving a wave or at least acknowledging another mini.... no big deal, I don’t go out of my way to fall out of the sunroof waving but I like to at least give ‘em a nod.

So I’m on my way home holding my phone in my left hand with my right hand on the steering wheel.

Over a hill I quickly see a mini and out of habit of waving, I raise my left elbow and wave.

What a freakin’ moron!! My elbow? Seriously, you freakin’ waved using your elbow??

What the hell was I thinking???

I usually give the peace sign for my wave. One time, however, for some reason my pointer finger went up but my middle didn't..."Hey look I'm an idiot who doesn't know how to chuck a deuce!" I swear I stared at my hand like there was a hole in my tennis racket for the next minute or so. WTH was wrong with me?

The only thing that could have been more embarrassing is if my middle went up and my pointer stayed down.

I usually wave at other Mini's.... the wave I give depends on windows down or up..

I also find it offensive when they don't wave back, I know they noticed my Chili Red Justa cruising down the road, unmistakeable....

Please put down the phone. We don't want to lose you or anyone else.
Besides, we certainly don't want to lose another Mark

I do have bluetooth... it just sucks, not to mention the windows were down which only makes it worse.

As far as driving while on the phone... if you can drive while using your phone, I’m okay with it. I’m against the idiots that for some reason completely become oblivious that they’re driving and simply can’t do it. If you can’t drive while on the phone, put the damn thing down.

Would not have happened if you had been texting instead of talking.

I do the same... I’ll see a mini and out of habit, I’ll wave. Then I realize I’m not even driving my mini. I wonder if they know why.

On the very rare occasion that I see another MG on the road, I find myself waving regardless of what I happen to driving at the time. Naturally it's better if I'm actually in my own MG, but I always seem to be in the wrong car... Same with MINIs; if we're in my wife's Focus, I generally won't wave at MINIs. The other day, while we were out in her car, I yelled a greeting to some nice folks in an MG Midget like mine. They probably thought I was nuts.

Yup, completely agree... when I’m on the Harley or driving my H2, I’ll have a mini pull up next to me. If I was going to wave at another H2 (which is rarer and rarer these days... they don’t wave like they use to) I’ll be in the mini... just can’t win.

The sad part about the whole point of this thread is that I waved using my elbow, the other mini didn’t even acknowledge me.

Very disappointing.... I felt like an idiot then.

Sorry for the second post immediately afterwards, I was going to copy and paste it to put it in the above post but somehow I hit send instead. Can we not delete our own posts? I’m not trying to pad my post count, really..lol.

I'll agree here. I live in the DC área and few folks return my waves. I usually throw a piece sign or open hand wave.

I feel like the dealers here are not educating the new owners about waving

I even have the MINI app running on my iPhone and it rarely gets a wave either. Are people even using that? I think the power pellets I drop are being cleared vs someone actually picking them up...

I find it a little disappointing, here’s why.

I’ve had several Corvettes. The Corvette guys use to always wave, they were much like the Mini people, they were car guys who appreciated that particular car.

As the new models came out, more affluent people were buying Corvettes because they were Corvettes and they could afford them, not because they were Corvette guys.

I think though not quite as bad, the mini population has succumbed to that also in the sense that when gas prices went up, mini sales went up... many of these people are not “Mini” people, they’re small, compact, I get better gas mileage people.

I may be way off but it seems that the true mini enthusiast will wave and you can usually tell by their car... it’ll have some sort of youification done to it.

My .02 worth....

I personally think there should be a section in the owner’s manual detailing the different type of waves...

I can not believe that nobody responded on this one???
How can you be OK with anybody using a phone (like you) while driving? You think you How to do it, until you have an accident.... And then you don't any more... Sad thing is, you might hurt your self or somebody else...
Please, don't get in to the argument over this, that is not my intent. I have all the respect for you as a member of this forum and fellow MINIac...
But, cut the Malarky and leave the phone when you're driving. Period!
Or just pull on the side of the road and do your business...
Or use handsfree option...
Or close the windows if blue tooth sucks...
Just don't hold anything else in your hands beside the "pretzel" in front of you...
Cheers!

This is absolutely true. I would say a good amount of MINI's on the road today are simply because they get better gas mileage. The person driving could care less. Which unfortunately, is a woman most of the time. I'm not at all saying that all women who drive MINI's don't care or anything...it's just my observation. I would say for a lot of guys, since MINI's do get a bad rap about being a "girl car" for some reason, that if you are a guy and you buy a MINI, you kinda have to really want one.

I also think a big problem is that people just aren't paying attention to anything these days while driving. You may notice another MINI and wave, but chances are they are really distracted and can't notice anything around them. So it's not that they aren't throwing the wave back, they just don't notice because they don't pay attention. As a motorcycle rider, I notice EVERYTHING I can while on the road, even while in a car, because you have to on a motorcycle....or else.

My bluetooth is clear a a bell but I see complaints about the bluetooth often on this forum. Mark, what radio do you have, the standard one or the Harman Kardon? I have the HK radio, I wonder if that makes a difference

I got one of those sun visor clip on bluetooth gadgets for our Volvo. We found that it we speak quietly it sounds great, if we yell, it goes all to hell.
