Knocking under accelaration

What causes knocking? I get knocking sometimes during acceleration.

I would try a different gas first. Look for low ethanol or none at all.

If you have been using the same fuel right along and this is a recent event, I may go further for a solution.

How old are the plugs ?
Maybe a bad plug coil ?

Haven't seen many knock sensors go so I would check that last.

When I had an unexplained knock issue turned out to be my DME.... $$$$$$ eventually
the whole thing went south and I had to buy a new one...

Do you have an S or a JAC ?

51000 miles on the car- should I change the plugs? Coils are probably expensive

get the codes read using a OBDII code reader and find out whats really causing your problem. It may require a Mini specific code reader to be able to properly read all the codes, but its a start. OBDII monitors the performance of the engine so knocking should show up as a misfire.

Id pay the money to get a diagnosis and then if its easy enough fix it yourself. Is it a true knocking noise or is it more like a thumping or ticking noise? Coils or plugs would cause a check engine light to come on. And i believe predetenation from lower grade fuel would also cause a engine light.

Under acceleration, the car bogs for a second. Is that knocking?

In my terms no. My mcs does that to. Not under full acceleration though. A bog might come from something simple such as lack or air. Aka air filter. Is it all the time or random?

I don't have a code reader and I'm out of warranty. If it's the hpfp, will they replace?

I have this 2... I need help!!! Knocking occurs between 2nd and 3rd and anywhere between 3000-4500 rpm. My car has 45000km. In this time I've had to replace O2 sensor and fuel pump. Greece in general has really bad gas. To give you an idea a shell station next to my house had to get rebranded because of the poor quality that was being used. According to MINI the issues i had were all related to that station. I also have a problem with oil consumption (1 lt per a week which is ridiculous!!!). I'm wondering if this issue can be related... PS my exhaust tips are entirely black, so I'm wondering if that's from the same issue?

my mini goes through a quart per 1000miles. and black exhaust would mean that your car is using to much fuel. So perhaps the "knocking" is a timing problem? to much fuel in the cylinder causing it to combust louder? odd soulutions but ya
