This is pretty ironic!
I just bought a beautiful 1988 Porsche 911 Carrera coupe -- man, what an amazing car and a real, connected driving experience! It has almost all of the original parts (aside from normal replacements), etc., and is in great condition.
But here's the ironic thing:
With 119,000 miles and 23 years on the 911, there's not a single rattle or creak in the interior. Meanwhile, my 2010 Mini S with only 19,000 miles and 1 1/2 years seems to develop a new rattle or creak every month.
Just struck as me as funny, and I'm sure a lot of you can relate.

Speaking of Englishman, the automobile I've ridden in that had the most rattles ever was a 2006 Land Rover. Wow. It was like a Stravinsky rattle symphony in there.

Well done! You got a good one. Everyone I know/have known who has a MINI has had some degree of the rattles. Maybe the Englishmen weren't drunk when they put together your baby.

You're Mini must of been built on a Monday or Friday
Well, the only comfort I have is that MINIs are somewhat notorious for their rattles, so I know that I'm not alone.
One friend had a 2008 that he affectionately called "The Rattle Trap".
for the $ we pay for this car (new or used) you would think they would be built better as far as durability and reliability. it seems like you either get a good one or a bad one...in my case, I got one in between...shame on BMW!

No rattles or anything in both of my mini's, 2009 conv and 2011 countryman. But I do think I will need a high pressure fuel pump soon in my countryman, 1400 miles and it cuts out while accelerating, nice! Actually only did it once.
Ditto here on the no rattles. That said, every now and then I hear a bit of a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the rear hatch. Other than that, it's solid. And even that rattle is very intermittent.

Regarding rattles, my 11 MCS and my son's 09 MCCS are rattle free at this time. My son's car has had a few rattles coming from the rear barn doors, but those seem to be solved for now. I do agree with a previous post, seems you either have a good MINI or a not so good MINI - not much in between.
But if you really want to hear an English cacophony, take a spin in a Lotus Elise. They don't call them Buzzbombs for nothing.
+1 on the new to you P car. Great selection, and with only 119K just broken in. Enjoy!

Well, I'm glad to see some people got good MINIs here -- their quality control is poor, unfortunately (which is why they get low reliability ratings overall). Mine's been fine engine-wise (so far), but the construction of the car itself leaves a bit to be desired.
My '97 Subaru Outback went almost 150k without a single rattle or any kind of issue aside from regular maintenance; I was spoiled coming into MINI land. You would expect rattles in an old car, of course, which is why it was ironic to me that my old 911 has nary a rattle in it while 2010 my MINI does.
My cousin bought a 2011 JCW Coupe two months ago -- already has a couple of rattles and his clutch failed at around 700 miles (I just learned this today). I guess the same people working on his were the ones working on mine at the factory!

Awesome MG in that pic!

I'm sure some of you don't have rattles, and that's great. The head mechanic at my MINI dealer (Nick Alexander MINI in L.A.) told me that rattles are a very common complaint from MINI owners. May your rattle-free luck continue -- I wish I was in your shoes. I think that MINI really needs to step up their quality control and consistency.

My little car was used when I bought it. One of the things that sealed the deal was the excellent condition exterior wise, that it was in. I suspect that the previous owner had taken care of any earlier rattle issues, that it may have had but it also had higher mileage on it, which enabled me to afford it in the first place. I also suspected his reason for trading was to avoid some of the issues that might come with any car with higher mileage, which I've taken on and am prepared to do.
If I were to pay top dollar for for a car, I'd have already had some sort of idea what their shortcomings might be and either buy it and be halfway prepared to deal with it, or forget it.
I couldn't agree more. There are other much more expensive cars that are even worse, such as Range/Land Rover and some others, but MINIs are certainly not cheap cars to buy, especially when you get some of the normal options. Again, I think one of their main problems is bad consistency and quality control -- not sure what the problem is over there. American car companies are beginning to show that it CAN be done (many of them are very reliable these days), so hopefully MINI will follow suit...?
