R56 Anyone tried the Motul 300V engine oil?
Anyone tried the Motul 300V engine oil?
the engine oil which is recommended by MINI OWNER'S MANUAL is 0W40, 0W30, 5W40, AND 5W30. But when I was reading the instruction by Motul, i think 20W-60, 15W-50 are also for good choices. And here is something from
MINI Lounge:
Long-life rating LL-01 Approved Synthetic Oils for the US Market
- Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30
- Mobil 1 SAE 0W-40
- Pennzoil Platinum European Formula Ultra SAE 5W-30
- Valvoline SynPower SAE 5W-30
Use only synthetic oils with an API rating of SM or higher. In other words, the good stuff. The choice of the right SAE grade is based on the climatic conditions in the region in which you normally drive your MINI. To best determine which SAE grade is best suited for your vehicle, contact an authorized MINI dealership.
And I am living in Nevada, so its really really, extremely hut here. PLEASE HELP.
Thank you.

If you're still under warranty, it's probably best to stick to something with the official BMW LL-01 and the ACEA A3/B3 certifications.
Meets ACEA A3/B3 and BMW LL-01:
MINI 5W30
Castrol (euro) Syntec 0W30
Mobil 1 0W40
Valvoline Synpower MST 5W30 (not readily available in retail, only comes in huge containers)
Valvoline Synpower HST 5W40 (unsure about availability)
Motul 8100 X-cess 5W40 (not sure if it's actually certified)
"Meets" ACEA A3/B3 and BMW LL-04
(but I don't think they're formally certified as such):
Amsoil european formula 5W30
Amsoil european formula 5W40
"Meets" ACEA A3/B3 only (maybe not good enough for 18K intervals,
but should be fine if you change oil twice as often as the MINI says to)
(I think only the Valvoline has the official certification here):
Redline 5W30
Redline 0W40
Redline 5W40
Royal Purple 0W40
Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic 5W30
I'd go for Mobil 1 0W40 for a new car still under warranty in Nevada,
and probably Amsoil 5W40 Euro, Redline 5W40, or Royal Purple 0W40.
The Motul 8100 X-cess 5W40 (has A3/B3 and LL-01 rating) may be a better choice for a street car
than the 300V racing oil.

I use Motul 300V Power 5-40 for nearly 15000 miles now. Oil changes every 4000 miles. No problem at all, plus the fact that oil consumption has dropped compared to the Castrol used from the factory.
A racing oil is always better for your engine than a non racing one. It is all a matter of cost...

Is 15w50 for street racing sth, but the 20w60 for lap racing?
