What wolves?

People are wolves, get over it.

And it isn't that I want to see the deer die, but I'm an engineer, and statics and dynamics telling me that swerving and hitting a tree is much more dangerous than hitting the deer. And human life is always more valuable than animal life.

The OP is safe and happy with his decision, good for him, but he was lucky.

What you don't want to be his insurance company.....

What's wrong with setting your cruise control at 35mph then steering into a tree when you see a deer.

Maybe it was the part about never tapping the brakes.......

The MINI's fantastic 4 wheel disc ABS brakes only work if you use them!

My point being that deer don't have many natural predators...wolves...because we've killed them off.

I have no problem with deer dying, either, and yes, it's fantastic that the OP is safe and sound.

Glad you're safe, and good on you CMG for sticking with your morals on that decision! I have to say I've always been of the opinion that it's us invading the animals' habitats, but I can't say with any certainty what my decision would be until I'm put in that situation (which I hope to never be).

Oh and inside of car was without a blemish - doors opened and all. this was with cruise control set at 35 and no brakes!
Cheers to you all

Wow, the oil hadn't even cooled in your deceased Mini and you were already looking for a replacement?! I would have been in mourning/shock for several weeks or months before even considering a replacement...

Hate to see you MINIless CMG, but glad things worked out AND you are happy, in the end that is what people need to realize, we could be mourning you instead of your MINI!!

We are a two-deer hit family. Back in '93, a full grown buck ran right out in front of my wife's Mazda 626 as she was going 50 mph. She hiot is head on and damamged grill, hood, roof, trunk lide and both front and rear windows in addition to airbag. As soon as we tole State Farm "Hit by a deer", they said it was probably totalled. A few years before that, I hit a deer head on in my '88 Turbo Isuzu Impulse [I really loved that car] and it was totalled too. Neither stood up as well as your MINI did.

Interesting choice. I sat in one as it was nice looking and all, but the visibility for me was horrible, being 6'-6" I was looking at the very top of the windshield/headliner. Also, the B pillar was too far forward for getting out.

But hey, it's your money and enjoy it.

Did they give you a couple of incentives at least? How negotiable was the price?

yup I read on line not best car for tall guys like you. me 5'9 so its no problem for me. its a popular car and lots dont have more than a couple, especially the SX. 30k stick and got for 28k. Incentive? ya sure, the salesman tried assuming the sale of a $2k extended lease while signing the stack of paperwork as if I wouldn't notice. It comes with 60k bumper to bumper, 100k drive train. almost an incentive not to go back! Really happy with the choice,,,, funny my sister in FL bought the same car minus turbo in white the same day

You guys saying he should have hit the deer in a car this small and low-slung are effin crazy frankly. We have TONS of deer where I live in the mountains of Colorado. I see them in my yard/neighborhood along with Elk on a daily basis. As you might imagine, I see lots hit too. I have also seen accidents where you pass by and theres nothing but 4 legs sticking out of the windshield and the body filling the driver's seat, etc. IMHO hitting the thing is only even somewhat of an option if you're driving a full-sized pickup or a large SUV. And even then there are no guarantees.

To the OP, glad you're ok man, thats all that matters. In the MINI, I'd have done the same exact thing. The only way I'm hitting an animal that large on purpose in that little car is if my options are animal, or oncoming vehicle.
