Back to the original theme...

The commonality that I see between MINI owners and Apple owners is the appreciation of Good Design. You know, cars and computers don't have to be like toasters. MINIs are distinctive and so are Apple products. If you're OK with having what every one else has, that's fine.

However, if you wish to facilitate breaking new ground, there are like minded people out there. But, it is silly to expect it to come for free. My late uncle fancied himself a poker player. As he would say, "You have to pay to see George.".

As to your last question? Yeah, for me, the Touch looks like a Zune equivalent based on features *I* care about. Clearly you're an Apple fan, lol. So far I'd label it as "neat". If buying solely for personal reasons would I buy another Apple product? Unlikely.
Not necessarily. I'd say that I don't have a built-in negative Apple vibe...

Fair enough, I do, and its for good reason actually. I've built an entire career and a software company on Microsoft Technologies and PC-based systems. Its my livelihood, and Apple is the "enemy".

Back to the Touch, it worked well in the MINI with the stereo system. Granted its not extremely easy to browse whats on the iPod while driving safely, but that was to be expected and isn't Apple's fault. The device itself is cool, it looks/works very much like my Droid phone which I wasn't expecting (guess Droid ripped em off). I'll continue using it for software testing and listening to music in my car and see how it goes. I like the way iTunes lets me easily decide what to put on the device. Kudos to Apple for that one, that feature is better than the Zune software. The device clearly has features that I'll never use, but it seems well made. All in all from a die hard Apple hater, I will say its a "neat" device and well executed.

This is very interesting indeed!
I am bi-techtual (LOL) - and I use Windows in various flavors and of course I have been an Apple faithful way back in the II+ days.
I have also played around with Linux as well.

The trend that Apple is being more and more ingrained into the mainstream is that they DO control the end product. Apple products have always been both about looks as well as function and I am not talking about just the devices.

Don't get me wrong... I despise some of the builds of certain Macs... (owned a G5 that went belly up after 2 years due to either a bad daughter board or a bad power supply and was out of warranty) and the "AppleCare" extra costs to make sure I never go down that road, make me feel taken sometimes.

But, when they do get it right the end result is a very care-free experience.
The iPhone, iPod and iMac are things that they really got right.

I cannot agree that "most" MINI owners are Apple devotees. But, ever since the iPhone changed the whole mobile market back in 07, more and more people have indeed switched to this platform.
So this statement could apply to Volkswagens (as mentioned above) or Fords or Ferrari's and on and on and on......

Oh and yes, I still have a //c, G4, G5, iMac, Nano, iPods, the original iPhone, 3G, iPhone4 and iPad2......
But, I also have more old windows desktops, laptops and was an early adopter of Vista (yes, the crazy nerd that saw the potential in it before it became Mojave and then retooled and done right into Win7)

Ive been using Macs for about 8 years now and will never go back. I used to have a windows based laptop just to run AutoCad but now that the newer Macs are AutoCad compatible and my cat spilled water on my MacPro I threw the windows laptop away (not really, my fiance uses it) and bought a new 27" iMac. Its a million times better....Oh, and i like my MINI too........

Well, lets not get carried away achilles, lol.

I gave the new iPod some props, but if I'm being 100% fair, my Zune device interface, that is, the menu'ing system to browse music/videos/podcasts is WAY better than the iPod IMO. Its not only easier to use, but its more visually attractive. So as would be expected, there are pros and cons to both in different areas. I wouldn't call either one the "best" myself, I'd probably just leave it that both are competent devices with some strong and weak points.

I've been checking and that doesn't seem to be the case. Many prices are the same. Perhaps Amazon prices drop faster; I don't know. Anyway, I checked 3 albums that are hot on the charts right now and found 2 were the same and one had the same individual prices but the album was cheaper on Amazon.

Obviously I'm dealing with only a small snapshot and a very limited sampling. Does Amazon have a different methodology that you can tell? Is older stuff treated differently?

Well I hardly ever buy just a single song, so I would imagine those must be comparable as we're talking a very small micro-transaction. I know Amazon gives you a deal for buying the whole album though. I spot-checked 5 albums that I've bought recently and in almost all cases they were anywhere from $1.50 to $6 more expensive on iTunes. One of them was the same at $9.99. I would expect some variance perhaps between the distribution channels and the various labels. Based on the searches I've done, and looking at the amount and type of music I buy, I still think Amazon is a good bit cheaper for me.

For example, a metal band called Children of Bodom released a new album about 3 weeks ago that I bought on Amazon.

Amazon price: $5.99

http://www.amazon.com/Relentless-Rec...81698&sr=301-1

iTunes price: $11.99

http://itunes.apple.com/us/album/rel...er/id420467845

iTunes wants double the money for this. Why??

It may largely depend on the type of music you listen to, but I would urge anyone who regularly buys on iTunes to maybe take a look at Amazon sometimes too. They have a neat feature now where you can upload anything you buy from them automatically to your "cloud drive" (and it doesn't reduce your available space either), allowing you to stream the music you've bought to any PC or mobile device over the web, etc.

Yes, I would need to do a longer search than just 3 albums at one point in time. I've been out of the country for almost 7 months, so I was just guessing as to what's on the charts. It used to be that Taiwan was a few months behind, but now it seems like less than 1 month. For the record, I was looking at music by Adele, Rihanna and Kesha. Not sure how all this works as none of their albums was priced at $11.99. From memory, I think it was $10.99 and $9.99.

Back in the day, when I used to visit music stores, they would discount a hit record quite a bit at the beginning. When sales tapered off, the price came back up to usual level of $14 to $16. From brief observation, that doesn't seem to be what they do with digital music. Anyway, I'm real short on data points at the moment...

I like supporting the artists that work hard to make music I enjoy listening to, so I buy the MP3 albums.

thats y i switched to MOG and i listen to rap... so i feel like they just waste the money i spend on their music on "popping bottles" so i could careless.. but for a artist that isnt well "stupid" and blowing their money on strippers and hoes, i actually buy their albums on itunes..,
i wanna hear somebody disagree with that

Oh and i again i never said i actually download free music cause thats highly illigal (to keep the thread rolling)
