Fog Light Bulb Change Ouch

I love the Retro look of the Mini and finally broke down and bought a set of Yellow Fog Light Bulbs. I thought the install was going to be easy. I was wrong! .

1.) Step one: The inside fender well cap came off in a snap.

2.) Step Two: 1/4 turn on the bulb and it easily slips out the fog light housing.

3.) Step Three: (NIghtmare! ) The instructions state to depressn the two tabs on the side of the socket and the bulb should pull straight out. WRONG! So after 5 minutes of playing tug of war, I figured I would use a pair of pliers to depress the tabs while I pulling the bulb out. Wrong! I crushed the socket and broke the tabs . I stopped at this moment and took a breath. I decided to look at the replacement bulb. I noticed two tabs at the top of the plastic socket (NOT AT THE BOTTOM WERE YOU DEPRESS!).

I took a small flat blade screw driver and simply pryed the top of each tab and viola the bulb came out with no effort . The other side took all of two minutes to install. Luckily the left crushed socket works fine.

I hope this will help anyone who plans on changing their fog light bulbs in the future.

By the way I Love the way the Yellow bulbs look! I will post a picture tonight when you can see them best.

Yikes - sounds like it could have turned into a crappy situ. Like oldsbear said, glad it turned out okay for you.

Looking forward to the photos. I'm planning to do the same.

The yellow ones really do work better than the white in bad or low light conditions....

But please tell me you're not one of those idiots who thinks it's "cool" to drive around in clear weather with your fog lights blazing away!

The bulbs are 35w, the same as stock.

The fender caps are removed by turning the cap a 1/4 turn until the tabs are line up with the notches, then they simply pull out.

Add me to the always on crowd!
(I use those as DRLs, decreased my close calls by 90%)

(I actually only use the other ones in the rain at night)

Question... With the head lights there are two bulbs, one for the high beams and one for low. ( so 4 bulbs total ) With the fog lamps, how many bulbs are there, Because my lower lights are on when the headlight switch is clicked once, then when I hit the fog lamp switch they get brighter at the top part. So is this the same as the headlights. So would I need 4 H8 bulbs and 4 h13 bulbs to get all matching color?

thanks for the tips! I have to replace mine due to a burnt out bulb, but I'm doing both with bulbs that'll match my xenons. I have a 2002 r50 so it'll probably be different. we'll find out in an hour.

Same access panel as the fogs. There are instructions and diagrams in the Owner's Manual.

Hoen errors?

So I have read a great deal of changing all these bulbs to Piaa/Hoen.

Some links mention error cropping up others say they are fine.

Some point to audi forums where (euro style) where errors from these bulbs do occur.

Can someone verify that the H8 hoens/Piaa and w5w wedge bulbs DO WORK without error codes for a 2007 R56 Cooper with Xenon stock headlights.

Thanks!

Hoen errors?

Hi, I have read a great deal on the forums with respect to Hoens and Piaa bulb exchanges for Fogs and City lights (wedge).

Some say errors, some say they work fine.

Some point to Audi forums where there are error codes (same euro style).

Can anyone please verify that these bulbs indeed are ERROR free.

I have a 2007 Cooper with factory xenons, R56.

I was thinking of the Yellow Piaa extreme or Hoen extreme white h8 for rain here in Vancouver and the upper fog city light wedge w5w bulbs as a brighter white to match (as close) to the xenons.

Any luck with fitting all these LED lights with resistors that are available on Ebay???

Are they too long for the fogs?

Thanks!

PIAA xtreme white 5 W wedge, $13 & PIAA xtreme white plus H8, $58, works very well to match the stock xenons. Found them at Tire Rack.

just go a 07 MCS and noticed how dull the fogs looked compared to headlights. Searched tirerack and found the h8's but not the white 5w wedge. Are these them:
