R56 Top Off Factory Oil With What?
Top Off Factory Oil With What?
I noticed today my R56 is a little low on oil. I am nearly 3 hours from the dealer. Is there a brand you can get that would be safe to top off the factory oil with?
Thanks,
Kevin

The MINI USA approved weight Mobil 1 is the 0W40 "European Formula". This Mobil 1 product has the correct ACEA A3/B3 ratings as well as the BMW LL01 rating. This is a normally stocked oil at my local WalMart.
Awesome guys! Thanks.
I'll pick some up at Wal-Mart tomorrow.
I do change my oil twice as often as recommended but still get it done at the dealership when I am in town since I live in an apartment and can't really do it myself at the moment.

I just saw in the manual it suggests castrol and 5W-30 or 5W-40. I guess RTFM huh?
I thought I had read before and it only said use MINI Synthetic. I guess someone broke in my car and added the other part recently!

First off, oil opinions vary and are typically strongly held
My 2¢:

Typically send used oil to Blackstone for analysis every-other change.
Cost is minimal and the peace of mind is well worth it.
A few years ago, analysis showed I had begun having internal engine wear ‘issues’ with my Jeep so I started send samples for analysis every oil change.
The results continued to show a problem that was only worsening.
Blackstone recommended changing brands of oil.
I changed to Valvoline Full Synthetic (or NAPA Full Synthetic as it is made by the same folks) and several oil change analysis show the values back where they belong.[/flame suit]
