o7 MCS Oil Service interval change reset problem

Okay, so yesterday I did a DIY oil change on my mini. Changed the filter oil, etc....

When i got to resetting the oil service interval is where i started having problems. I got into the service menu and hit reset on the OBC, but my mileage got set to 24000 miles but im at 32,400. which is odd, because the service interval thing was bugging me about doing the oil change on monday.

I need help D: oh and my check engine light came on but i dont know why it might've done that either. i tried searching around but couldnt find anything that fit my case.

Thanks in advance guys.

Edit - I also noticed that my mini is idling at higher than normal now. Around 800 rpms. Is that a problem?

I believe the 24k is an indication of when the OBC thinks the next oil service would be due (in 24k miles from now).

On the check engine light, go down to your closest AutoZone or Advance Auto or similar - they usually will read the code for free.

The interval is soooo long because Mini doesn't want to pay for oil changes under their free 36mo/36K maintenance plan. There shouldn't be any reason that the oil change would make the engine idle faster. Maybe it was just cooler outside after the oil change and the engine hadn't warmed up?

Makes sense. Oh. Even after it warms up it still idles around 800-1k rpms.

Maybe related to the check engine light you reported? If a sensor is getting a bad reading or something, the computer may be trying to compensate by increasing the idle. Keep in mind it could be entirely unrelated to the oil change - just freaky timing. I had something like that happen to me.

Well, i pulled into pep boys to get the engine light checked, only to have the guy tell me that their obd scanner cant read BMW codes, didnt feel like arguing, so i went back to my car, started her up, and bam, engine light gone.

i dunno. i'll just leave it how it is and hopefully my mini doesnt blow up or something. Thanks for the help man.

Did you make sure the oil cap was on tight?
