test drove spice orange 2011 cooper s today....

Hey guys, I'm in canada. I test drove a 2011 Cooper S today and had some questions. I'm looking at ordering one, but they don't seem to know much about them. They have their option sheets, pricing, etc, but we don't have the configurator online yet.

Firstly, base price is 30K! That's 7 grand more than the states. Holy.

Now that I've optioned one, it came out to 40,500 before fees, 46k with tax bla bla.

1. They said we don't get adaptive headlights.

2. No powerfold mirrors

And interior, they don't know much about colour line, leather colours, door colours, etc.

Anyways, they fixed everything I didn't like about the 07-10. Interior, bumpers, etc.

The engine was great, power was great and burble from exhaust was great. I'll post pictures in a few.

They took away power-fold mirrors? Even as part of the Cold Weather Package? I wonder why...perhaps they were costing too much in warranty repairs.

The burble is back? That's great!

The Canadian car prices are always off the charts compared to the US. The ones I find to be the craziest are the Hondas and Fords that are made in Ontario, yet have some of the highest markups. A Civic Si is something near 30K. Just crazy.

Anyway, why not use the US configurator to build what you want and find the items you deem as "must-haves" so that way you can have your motoring advisor in Canada build it with his spec sheet and give you a price? Just my 2 cents.

jujucooper - power fold mirrors are available in the states, but theyre not on the list for canada.

nj mini - yes, the burble was great! and yes, the markup is nuts! and especially insulting if the car is made in canada. haha.

I asked if they can include the option codes, they said they probably cant?! I'm going to wait until the configurator shows up on mini.ca for 2011.

here are the pics!

I like Spice orange with Black wheels. I would like to see it with other Black wheels too. But I really like that colour.

The interior is soooo nice. I still think MINI needs work on their color palette though.

To be honest it wasn't bad when sitting in it, but I agree, I want all the silver rings matte black!

Yeah, and you're complaining that the rest of the silver isn't black.

I didn't even notice that there was still silver on all the rings besides the tach. Wow, that sucks.

I'm clearly in the minority, but I think the new interior changes, with a black leather/leatherette interior, are a step back. Whats the difference between the new base MINI interior and the interior of a 93 Toyota Tercel with vinyl seats? Both have black seats, dash, steering wheel, and round vents.

I know the fake silver plastic in my car is in fact fake and plastic, but it breaks up the black and makes me feel better about spending $20k on a car that does nothing better than a $13k Hyundai Accent hatchback

Have you looked into how much it would cost to import the car to Canada from the US? The Loonie is doing really well right now, maybe that would be an option?

That's right, no HK in this MINI.

TinyRed - I'd have to have the money up front and change the speedometer over to KMH, import feeds, BMW fees and shipping fees, it would be the same price in the end :(

Can you talk more about the power?

From the techs I talked to that drove the first ones that came in, they said they pull HARD, especially up top. Can't wait to go drive one myself, just was curious as to your thoughts on how it felt versus a pre-LCI R56 (if you've driven one).

Toying with the idea of getting rid of my 08 and getting into an '11......

Or there are a few 06 GP's floating around with low miles, which are VERY tempting......

Choices....choices.....

yeah up top it pulls ok. a bit of lag from the start, but I drove an automatic. I had driven a pre-LCI r56 a month or two ago. The engine seems smoother. The LCI isn't noticeably faster than an older R56. The interior, engine and exterior make it very attractive compared to pre LCI R56s

after what I've become used to I doubt it feels like it pulls HARD to me. =P

That spice orange looks sharp. I'm not sure it'll be the color for my next mini though.

I would say Spice Orange is an interesting color and I like it better here in your photos than some others I've seen but I think it's one of those you have to see in person and various lighting conditions, I will hold off on a final opinion till I see it myself.

You'd be amazed how difficult a process the gov't makes this. I was looking into this for a friend in Toronto. It's a ton of filing fees plus import taxes and the only way to really save on an import is to go the used route...which even that has to be a certain age/mileage to qualify. It's sadly cheaper to just buy new, even with the markups.
