when is lst oil and filter change?

I have a mini cooper S hardtop 2009. It has about 3500 miles on it. I called MINI service to schedule an appointment for oil, lube and filter change. Lady said lst schedule service is 10,000 miles or one year which is the oil lube filter change.

Is this correct?

Thanks,

Silvia

Do yourself a favor. Don't let it go more than 5K. I do my first oil change on new cars at 1K and then every 5K after. Never any problems.

Thanks. This seems so long. Do I need to add oil before 10k miles or a year?

If so at what milege and which brand and grade for 2009 mini cooper S? I live in Southern California.

I'm using Amsoil, but Mobil 1 is another alternative. 5W30

There are several threads with good discussions of this topic. My take was change the oil every 4k...

If you plan on keeping your Mini after the warranty expires there are three things you can do to make sure your Mini lasts: 1.Change your oil around 4k or 5k. 2.Sea foam your Mini. 3.Get an oil catch can like this http://www.namotorsports.net/detail....0103/xref/mini to prevent engine slug. Just remember dealers are in the car repair business as they make most of their money off repairs not car sales.

Yup. I had 'em do my oil and filter at 3K anyway. Just about everyone in the building seemed to be lined up to tell me that it isn't needed until 10,000-15,000. I said ok, but change it anyway ... on me, and you guys can eat the next one on schedule at the end of the year.

Just like with my R53, I'm following the factory recommended change - I just hit one year yesterday, and I'm scheduled for the free one year change tomorrow. I'm at nearly 14k and the service indicator still says 6k more until the 1st service. I guess I don't drive hard....

With all that being said, I helped a friend change the oil on his R53 last week and seeing how simple it really is (I've never changed the oil on a car myself...ever) I might start doing my own in between the dealer changes. Just in case I decide to keep this car longer than 3 years (which is unlikely with the crop of new MINIs on the horizon that look tempting already )

When do you add oil? You really can't be serious?

You pull the dip stick and see what the level is, if it's low, you add oil... Have you ever owned a car before?

With modern manufacturing processes, and oil technology it's entirely possible that oil change intervals can be extended. Maybe even as far as Mini claims. I changed the oil in my new '10 MCS at 1500 miles, and am going to pull an oil sample today for oil analysis (www.blackstone-labs.com) at 5500 miles. and see how the oil is performing. I expect that with a filter change 1/2 way, the oil will still perform for 7500-10000 miles.
