top center vent operation

I could swear that I *used* to be able to control the top vent, via the dash button with an arrow pointing straight up (duh). Now the thing is open all the time, whether I've hit the button or not. I have auto climate control and the proper icon lights up/turns off, but it's always open and blowing air when the fan is on.

Am I correct in assuming that this is NOT proper operation?

The top vent is always on(at least on my car) regardless of the vent setting. The servo for the vent control turns a fixed plastic gear so there's really no way for it to change on it own.

That's bizarre. Why is there a setting for an (up arrow) air flow? What is that referring to, if not the top vent? I'd rather just do without the silly thing. I need all the air flow I can get out of the normal dash vents, once summer hits out here.

Agreed. I will check mine and see if it's on all the time too. If so why put in the button to turn it on and off if it' on all the time anyway.

As PrinTX said the up arrow on the controls is for the windshield vents NOT the center dash vent.

If you set the the controls to the dash vents you will get a lot of cold air out of them and a little out of the center dash vent.

You are correct sir (said in my best Ed McMahon voice). After playing with the controls for a few minutes that is exactly what I found.
