Mini oil

Purchased 5 quarts of Mini Oil at the Mini dealer.
When pouring in oil, one of the plastic bottles oil was darker than the other 4 quarts. This darker oil bottle had a different code number at the bottom. Other than that it seemed to be the same oil but darker.
Any explanation, like it was from an older batch?

Contact customer service and give them the lot #'s...Ask them why there is a difference.

Did that. Didn't need your response for that comment. How about a real answer if your are going to respond?

Don't be an azz...you ask a question without giving details of who you contacted and I was trying to be helpful.

Posting questions on a public forum and then criticizing the responses you get does not help your cause.

...and BTW...after 126 views I was the only one who responded to your post. I should have ignored it like everyone else.

I think he must be an odd guy....he must have had the box checked on his report card that said "does not play well with others".

different batch--no problem at all.

The one that was a little darker probably came from a different batch. The oil still has the same properties as all of the other oil.

Yeah....most bottles carry that disclaimer....just funny how a guys asks a question, then is a bit if a jerk towards the first person who takes the time to answer him.

I admire rftucker. He asked a question relative to anyone knowing about a darker color of the mini oil. to tell him to contact the dealer is just not providing the information that this forum is supposed to do. The response from the member about the fact that some batches may have a darker color provides a decent answer. So the memeber stating to rftucker, not to be an azz, is the azz.

Yep. Different batches and probably even a different refiner.

There's nothing special about BMW/Mini motor oil. BMW just bottles the stuff from the lowest bidder.

Mini oil

First post, but I also change my own oil and was intriqued by the comments on the Mini Oil issue. I never had seen the darker color mini oil. It is alway a very light color, very dificult to see on the dipstick after changing oil.
So, does that answer your question on my first post????????

I disagree with you entirely.!!! his (rftucker)'s response was very rude and inappropiate to the gentleman (Boxedup) that responded with some good advice. If he didnt like that answer he should have kept his mouth shut and not responded with that nasty answer. This is a friendly forum.

To each his own!
Please have members respond with information that is useful. To answer a question with a response to contact a dealer would make this forum useless.
Dealers just provide the party line. Like "we don't know" or "bring the oil back" or "we will replace it"
They would never state why the oil is darker especially if it is a liability issue.
Use your common sense.

I thought BoxedUp's response was not very rude at all. I didn't think of it right away and I would be curious to what the response would be.

Use your common sense.

Except no one told the OP to call the dealer - BoxedUp suggested calling *customer service*, as in "find a phone number on the oil bottle and call them with the lot number(s)."

Calling the dealer about the color of new oil in the bottle would be silly, for all the reasons you listed - that's why no one suggested it.

Have you ever called customer service. I have and they give you the standard answer to protect them from product liability.
My message is; Provide a meaningful answer to inquires or questions.
I don't think rftucker was rude, just didn't feel he got a useful answer that might resolve his concern.

+1, sorry I did not make that clearer in my initial response.

I disagree, it's all about how you present your concern... I use an after shave skin lotion and after noticing that the fragrance changed and it was not to my liking, I contacted the manufacturer to inquire and got a nice response explaining they updated the fragrance for a more contemporary scent and offered to refund me the purchase price and sent me coupons to try their other products as well.

You don't think this is rude? Maybe I was overly sensitive that day.

I appreciate everyone's comments and was not going to continue on with personal attacks but doesn't anyone find it strange that the OP has performed a "hit and run".

...and I didn't call the OP an azz...I told him not to be one.

Aww, don't worry, these things sometimes take on a life of their own....Heck, sometimes people forget that the advise on this site is free, and people are in a sense donating their time and effort to help each other out.
I guess with the newbies that has not sunk in, and they expect a definitive million dollar answer.....the reality is this site is what is in the industry calls "crowd sourcing" and with it, general the majority of the answers are pretty good!! Sure there will be some bad info, but the weight of the reply's will be towards the correct answer....and it is up to the reader to determine the most valid responses, and reject the others!! Unfortunatly we have "donated our time and effort" to help a person who not only does not care, but belittles those that gives him an answer he is not happy with.
I guess that is just life!! Time to move on......and lets all remember, the one we help may be the one that helps us someday!!

I was going to quip that the the darker stuff was Extra Fancy, probably from Vermont.

Based on the rude reaction BoxedUp got, I'm glad I kept quiet...

You guys, gals are really over sensitive to rftucker's response.
He was not rude, just felt the the answer was not very informative and wanted an answer that was from one's experience.
Lets give some slack and not attack someone who was somewhat curt, but not rude.
We need to be more open to comments and not take the low road.

If I had seen his question first and wanted to respond I would have stated:

"That I had not seen darker oil, but that maybe someone on the board may have had a similar experience and had the following results"

So you would have said "I have no idea - maybe someone else will chime in"?

Now *that* would have been a worthless post.

Whatever, sockpuppet - I'm done.

Sorry I didn't get back sooner, working for a living.
Sorry also for my earlier response and if I had realized that it offended anyone I would not of made the statement.
Bad day at Black Rock last couple of days.
Again Sorry
BTW:The dealer is giving 5 new quarts of oil.
The customer service at MINI USA responded with, "Contact the Dealer"
