I just started using Fuelly.com to track, you have to do three fill ups before the car shows up publicly, but the **lowest** my car has ever shown is 30.9 mpg, and by doing the math it has averaged 29. However, my trips are almost all VERY short city driving (I work at home and only do the store/Post Office/bank loop) but when I reset the trip odo and mileage counter and did a couple of longer trips to LA, keeping it around 74 mph, it hit 37 and was still going up. That fillup by the math was 35.8.

My car is a Justa automatic, and I only use Sport when running with the club (rare).

Very happy with my gas mileage. Much better than my Nissan Sentra. And a HECK of a lot more smiles too!

Seriously?

Is there any way to fix that? I just read on the R57 subforum that there's a hidden menu and inside that menu there's a way to change the MPG ratio so that it's more accurate. Mine is always about 2MPG off.

I've been through the secret menu, but I'm not entirely sure which one would change the MPG ratio. If you hit the menu button on the head unit and then go to configuration and then change the language.

Of course if varies with the seasons. On summer gas, I get a consistent 32 in mixed driving (lots of 50 mph rural roads and travel through small towns). With winter fuel, it drops to 29 or so. I have a Midlands 5-speed.

My 2003 Base Cooper's on board computer is a bit pessimistic. When I divide the miles driven by the gallons filled, I come out 1.5 to 2 MPG better than the computer.

Yeah. It all depends on the driving style. When I'm driving slow I can average 29 mpg city and highway. But other times I'm around 23 mpg. My mini is a 6spd.

Does this procedure for getting into the hidden menu apply to R56 or is it for the previous gen.?

Fuel Mileage

On board computer 38MPG, my calculation 32MPG. Six speed standard transmission, (almost) no Sport Mode, and 50/50 ratio of city to open road driving.

OBC says 43.3 lifetime (so far); dividing miles traveled by gallons filled gives 41.7 MPG lifetime.

I'm looking to improve the latter number with my current tank.
