R56 MPG for YOUR MINI!!! mine seems really low =(
I've been getting 33ish lately if I keep it under 75 on the highway which accounts for 70% of my daily commute. This is with the 6 speed and the sport button always on. I might try to run through a tank without the sport button on and see how that goes soon.
The sport button should not change your mileage. The sport button in the manual transmission car only changes the throttle response mapping. IE; more throttle on less throttle throw.
At least that has been my experience.

Interesting note from you guys on mpg I own a 2008 MCS and the gas tank holds 13.3 gallons and I get any wheres of 480-500 miles on a tank of gas I try to keep it in 6th gear as much as possible and i use Chevron 92 octane gas and a fuel system cleaner every 3000 miles HOPE that info helps MINIINHD

No way in hell your getting 480-500 miles on a single tank of gas in an 08 MCS. Doing the math you would be getting over 36, close to 37 MPG's if using 13 gallons of the tank and getting on the low end of your range. My 09 MCS couldn't get that going downhill with the wind pushing it. Did you mean 380-400 miles per tank?
In my regular daily driving I could probably get 450+ no problem if I were willing to run the tank down to empty. Maybe 500 if I were ultra conservative.
I've pulled tankfuls in the past where I managed to post 39.x mpg in my 2008 MCS. Last year on a drive my computer spiked up to a projected distance of 620 miles for my tank (but it did drop after a while back to "normal").

Most of your driving must be highway with very little traffic or stopping/starting.
Based on my instant mpg readings, I think if I drove long distances at speeds of about 60 to 65mph, I could probably do 40+mpg.
I've been getting roughly 450 miles to a tank doing 70 on the highway - 6th gear, no sport button unless on the ramps. I drive roughly 70 miles a day. All highway. I can last Sunday through Saturday on a tank of gas usually.
Jacksonville is so big (biggest in U.S. for a city in land mass, very vast). You have to drive at the least 20 minutes to get anywhere and it's all highway roads. Traffic isn't horrible but it has its spots. Usually traffic keeps moving, but slowly in some areas (luckily for me i miss most of those busy exits).
Edit* I'm shifting at about 2500-3000 RPMs unless I'm passing or entering a ramp.

I also get 450+ miles to a tank if doing mostly highway miles. My normal mixed country roads, highway, and city driving yields about 34mpg average. I leave the sport button on and I accelerate faster than most people from stops, floor it regularly just to hear the exhaust and turbo whistle, and other silly stuff to keep me from being bored with it. The key is not using the brakes, slowing down for stuff... gotta keep the momentum going.
I have the 6spd automatic S model. Is the key to better gas mileage keeping it under 75 on the highway?
I'm averaging right around 30 mpg at the moment, combined highway/city driving. Round trip to and from work is about 50 miles.

The slower you go the better in terms of mpg. I generally try to keep it at 3,000 rpm in 6th, which translates to about 73 mph for me. Even at that I am giving up some efficiency.
As 009Mini noted and that I agree with, one of the biggest "driving style" changes is to drive in such a way as to minimize the use of the brakes. This means lots of anticipation of what is going to happen ahead of you.

Mines really sucks...
09 JCW Clubman.. with Alta AP get average of 21-23 mpg. I drive in san francisco mostly. but when I fill gas, tank range say 330-360 miles.
never/hardly on sport mode. dont really like sport mode feel. not smooth for daily driving.
shift at avg 3k rpm.
using Alta Ap linear program stage 1.
my others.
04 MSCm = 24-26 mpg
05 E55 AMG = 9-11 mpg
07 R63 AMG = 11-23 mpg

Wow, I am half way through the first tank on my 'new' (13k miles, new to me but used) MCS 2009 stick....
So far I have 40.3mpg on the computer, 50/50 highway and normal street driving, minimal traffic.
I have been driving like an old fart tho
and I've had two hybrids before, I once got 640 miles on 10 gallons in my 2000 honda insight.

My OBC shows between 21-23 avg MPG depends on how heavy my foot has been, but I've recently started using an online fuel log to track my fuel purchases and mileage http://www.gasbuddy.com and between my last couple of fill ups it's showing and average of 25.8 MPG. Not sure who's math is wrong. The mini's or the websites. Either way I'm not OVERLY concerned with the miles per gallon, what matters most are the SMILES per gallon. <--- See what I did there ;-)
My OBC is notoriously optimistic, so you need something like my Fuel Log app if you want to find out what you are really getting. My Justa Auto gets 32 mpg consistently on regular but my OBC always reads a few MPG higher. It is basically useless except for bragging rights!

My '12 MCS All4 - 28.6 in town, 31.8 hwy (it's only got 1400 miles on it) I too also use "Gas Cubby" as the OBC is usually off because it uses combined results even after resetting/zero out. Next tankful will try w/sport mode engaged.
