Better floor mats then Cosmopolitan

My dealer included floor mats when I got my 2010 MC a few weeks ago. I believe they are the "Cosmopolitan" mats. They are a lot thinner than the OEM mats I had in my 2006 MCSC. I don't particularly mind that, but they also don't seem to grab well to the velcro anchors in the floor, and they get very stiff in cold weather (which I believe contributes to the problem of them not holding on to the anchors).

I know there is another set of mats made my MINI that seems to sell for a little more than the Cosmpolitans. Does anyone know if they are better? Do they have the little patch to grab on to the anchor? Or has anyone tried any 3rd party mats? Bavarian Auto seems to have some extremely high quality ones. I really wanted to stick with a MINI OEM one, especially so that they have the little patch to stick to the anchor, but...

i have the rubber floor mats made by MINI and they are awesome. getting in the car with wet boots results in nothing more then an easily dumpable puddle in the middle of them.

I ordered the 4pc set for Schultze in #55 Black w/Blue Dots.

The mats fit PERFECTLY and the nubbed rubber backing ensures no slipping around or bunching up!

Cleaning the mats is super-easy, too! I just take them out and give 'em a good shake. If muddy, simply hose 'em down and hang 'em to dry.

In fact, I'm going to order one of their mats for the boot. Although the website lists the price for a boot mat at $249, that's the maximum they'd charge depending on vehicle. The MINI has a small boot, so the price will be much lower and they will send me the quote prior to actually making the mat.

As soon as I get the quote, I'd be more than happy to share the info in this thread.

There's a pic on the website of a MINI with the cocomats...you'll see how upscale and classy these mats look!

Those cocomats look very nice. But they need a better gallery - I'd really love to see some better pictures. Do you have any pics of the mats in your car?

I'd be happy to take a few pics in the morning and post them by lunchtime.

I'm a huge fan of cocomats too. My MC's set is my 4th. Be sure to get the "real" ones from cocomats.com. There are much inferior knockoffs out there. I'll post some pics when I get home frm the holiday.

Happy Festivus!!

We got the 'Cooper S' rubber floor mats and they work great. Heavy rubber, curled at the edges to keep water, mud, whatever, within the mat. Cleanup with a hose and towel and they are ready to go again. Stick to the velcro anchors really well. So well I thought I was going to pull the anchor out the first time I removed them to clean. If you are looking for a winter floor mat I would highly recommend these. Will change to a summer mat next spring when there is a little less snow slush, ice, and gravel to track into the car.

I've got the OEM rubber mats. The front mats are great, but the rear mats, I think the dealer gave me off a Coupe, because they don't quite fit right, in my opinion (I got them free with my purchase).

I love the rubber mats. Easy to clean especially during the winter w/ boots.

I prefer the OEM rubber mats, especially in the snow country winter. The carpet type are better looking but are harder to clean. When it comes to floor mats give me utility over looks anytime.

Weather Tech Floor Mats are a must if you live in Snow and Slush!! I'm up in the PNW where it doesn't Snow (that often), but Rains a lot that's why I have the Weather Tech Floor Mats.

I personally want to stick with fabric mats. Plastic mats are practical, yes, but a quality fabric mat does well enough in the snow and wet weather, and I like it how it feels better than plastic.

Someone posted up information about Cocomats or something like that in another thread a few days ago...they were pricey but I guess they are very high quality from what I read.

I've had nothing but carpet-style mats in my cars for years, but with the sloppy weather we can get here in Missouri, I opted for the rubber mats in my Cooper S. As mentioned above, they're easy to clean. Plus, they look much better than the average rubber mat. They're nicely styled, and incorporate the Cooper S logo.

Yeah, Cocomats are terrific. I briefly considered them for my previous car, but the price put me off.

Cheers,

Spridget

got snow and slush???

forget COCOA ... had 'em and that AIN'T the place for 'em

1. I've lived north and south and had many set of floor mats. Snow/slush + cocoa mats = no, you do not want to go there. Get rubber - WITH A LIP....

2. This fiber does not absorb dye, in my experience. What you get is rope that's been painted. When it wears, the color, which was on the outside, is gone. NATURAL COCOA mats look good for a long time. Had 'em ... been there.

3. When rope\sisal\hemp comes apart you get loose fibers. In other words, as your mats wear you get 'rope' fibers. After a year I was vac'ming as much 'mat waste' as anything else on the weekly car cleanup.

Not my experience with mats from cocomats.com. After 4 years/50K miles of daily use, the color (black) is still like new. There is hardly any visible wear at all and no issue with fibers coming loose. At 4 years old they still make an impression of being very high quality.

My black herringbone mats:

+1

If he was vacuuming up fibers after a year, I seriously doubt they were the genuine article from cocomats.com. I'm on my 4th set over a period of years, and the quality and durability has been superb.

That said - I agree with him about snow & slush not being good for them. Rubber mats are the only way to go if you live in an area where that kind of stuff is common. Cocomats can be the "summer" mats in such environments.

I had the cocomats in my '06 for almost 5yrs and they still looked great. I was JUST starting to show some wear on the driver's side mat, but barely. I just picked up my '11 MCS yesterday and the dealer gave me some rubber mats. I like the rubber mats, but probably won't keep them in for long. They looked filthy almost immediately. Here's a pic from the day I got the car, the car only has 43 miles on the odometer.

Here is my '06, the mats had been in for some time when I took this pic and only every got vacuumed when I did the whole car.

I posted a current price list for cocomats.com in the "General MINI Talk" section today, but it has been moved to the 2nd gen. "Interior/Exterior" section.

I bought inexpensive sisal mats from a well known auto accessories mail order catalogue, and had the same experience as you. You get what you pay for.
4 inexpensive sisal mats for $150 vs. 4 coco mats for MINI for $199.
