R56 when you pass another mini do you wave !!!!
Ever since ordering my MINI I've been wanting to wave at other MINIs, even though I'm still tooling around in a BMW. I've managed to resist though, since I'd probably look like a delusional crazy person and therefore ignored.
I was cruising along the Merritt Parkway in CT last night. Came across a Clubman with vanity plates: "Minimus" I rolled up to it twice, honked, waved. Didnt even get a sideways glance from them?? Struck me as odd given the vanity plate...
I get nothing around my area but north of here I am 5 for 5. Only had the car just over a week though. I agree that they are becoming common but in my buddies jeep, which are everywhere, we get waves all the time.
Starting to see more MINIs in my area. Used to get waves from nearly all the local MINIs. The more recent buyers don't seem to understand the concept.
Had a PS/B Cooper S look right at us and not wave yesterday. (He was stopped at the light as we were passing through the intersection.) We both waved and he just looked at us like, "I don't know you." Oh well. I will continue to wave regardless of any reciprocation.

I've got a 2010 Mini and I generally wave at all the other Minis I see but I seldom get a response. I went thru this same drill when I bought my new 1st generation Miata. At first we all waved or raised our headlights but as the uniqueness of the cars wore off the waving gradually subsided. As more and more Minis hit the road the feeling of belonging to a select group diminishes and the waving will stop.

Well that sucks! I for one will try and keep the waving going - How else are we going to show the new ones what they should be doing!
I live in nyc and most people wave and I wave back. But some People are oblivious what I've noticed is the older crowd waves more then the younger crowd. I have had older people even walking by stop to talk to talk to me about my MINI. I've had nice cars all my life but the MINI owners are the best.
I was driving behind a Clubman on my way to work today and in my mind was waving wildly like a madwoman. When my MINI finally arrives I'll be able to wave for real! Well, maybe with less crazy vigor, hehe.
Don't be such a pessimist! Driving in LA, at least, requires both hands and both eyes on the wheel and road. I can't make it personal when someone doesn't wave back. They're likely trying not to get rear-ended on the freeway, or a major boulevard.
When traffic is light, or when you're stopped at an intersection, you'll have a better chance of getting a wave of recognition. Spring and summer, when it is warmer, and the windows (or top if you have a Cabrio) are down, voice recognition may work, also.

I see a lot of Mini's around my area (Oly, WA) but, they hardly ever wave...even when I honk. I don't get it...I'm so happy driving mine that I want to share the joy when I see other mini's go by.
I did have a fun experience last weekend. I was sitting in traffic in Puyallup and someone honked...and honked...and honked. I looked in my mirror to see who was so angry and there was another chili red mini a few cars back honking away. Stuck my hand out the sunroof and did a big wave. My daughter shook her head at us and kind of rolled her eyes (she drives an SUV so she has no idea about the madness and need to connect with other mini mad people) but, I was happy.

I think he was on a test driver (dealer plates) but it was still someone driving a Mini and waving.
