R56 when you pass another mini do you wave !!!!
When I had my Jeep CJ7 every other Jeep waved, it was rare to not get a wave. Since getting my MINI I rarely get even a glance from other MINI drivers. Oh well, keep trying.
Passed and waved at another 4 Minis today... got no love...
+1 on the Jeep Wave. My first car was a wrangler and it seemed every Jeep I saw on the road gave me the wave. It's even gone far enough to make it onto the officia Jeep Blog along with many enthusiast websites.
When I got the Mini, I hoped for the same- however it seems many owners see nothing special in owning or acknowledging other Minis on the road the same way Jeep drivers used to.
What's funny is when I was in Costa Rica, I noticed drivers honked, waved, and acknowledged each other all the time, no matter what car they had. I guess it was part of the "Pura Vida" lifestyle. I wish it applied here in the states.

I also have a Jeep and when I drive it, I receive far more friendly waves then when I drive my mini. There are far more jeeps on the road here then mini's also. I think there are a large number of mini drivers that have bought a car that gets good MPG. When you buy a Jeep - there is only one reason - too have fun!!!
Laguna Hills, and Central Oregon......hmm.....not sure why you're not seeing more friendly MINI folk out there. Here in Michigan, I get a LOT of waves from MINI's. And I wave to them all the time. I also drive a Scion xB, and wave to other xB owners.
There might be a few peeps buying a MINI for MPG, but I must say most of the locals here, bought them for the F.U.N. factor - myself included. Whether racing on the track, or caravaning runs through the countryside, or short jaunts for groceries.....they're miles of smiles!
I can't really comment on a Jeep. Never owned one. Never was attracted to its style. Apparently they're "ok" for some people though. Meh.

I've gotten about 50% returns on waves. Someone flashed their lights at me in my neighborhood the other day, which was cool. Their Mini had dealer plates, so you know *that* feeling!
I do notice the slow-down / check-it-out when other Minis pass on the freeway.

Waves for the MINI seem to have dropped off recently. I do it EVERY time I spot a MINI but have only been getting about 1 in 5 or less. My son has a JEEP and he gets a lot more waves! And the more muddy the JEEP, the more waves it gets. :-)
I saw another MINI yesterday waiting at the same light as me coming from the opposite direction. As I passed (my side got to go first), I wasn't expecting a return wave so I kind of halfheartedly did a "peace sign wave" out my window. I looked over and the driver was very enthusiastically waving from inside! I wish I had put more of an effort into my waving!
