How should i use DSC on my snowy commute?

I drive about 40 miles each way every day and i go up and over mountains....a total blast in the summer...but now that the winter is here, i need a crash course in how to use the DSC button.

Just make sure it is turned on. How funny you asked for a "crash course" on the DSC button; the crash is what you are trying to avoid!

woooosh...right over my head......gotta love the unintentional pun.

So is it on by default? Or is it on when i push the button and the DSC light is on? I noticed today when i was driving ( no light on) that when i spun the tires the light would blink on for a second.

default is on as it should be. great safety feature. only when you press and hold and see that icon in the tach is it disabled. i haven't had to disable it to get moving in ice and snow yet. only disabled it for some use-at-your-own-risk "fun".

When you push the DSC button, and a light should come on and your computer should say DSC off... however you need to hold it down...

Now what happened to you is that when it blinks, thats when it takes action over throttle to prevent slip and regain tractions...

In case you are interested, here is a link from the MINIUSA.com website about DSC:

http://miniusa.com/#/learn/FACTS_FEA...ety_Features-m

Just click on the tab there and it should help you to understand how and what DSC is and does.

I'd say shut it off when you autocross; otherwise, leave it on --

There are times, going up a steep driveway, for instance, when turning it off will allow you to get up the driveway - with it on you wouldn't. This is only at slow speed. Needed it today to get up my snowy driveway.
Not for use traveling on the regular roads.

Good point...there is one particular 12 degree hill that i must climb on the way home...it can be a killer when cars try and do it going to slow...so i should turn DSC off when climbing the hill?

And thanks for the link and all the help...

If you are stuck in snow and both front wheels have no traction, turn off DSC.

Otherwise, I leave it on for daily driving. You never really know when you will need it.

There are two systems controlled by the DSC button--ASC, and DSC. Leave them on unless you get stuck in the snow and ASC is causing problems starting up. In most cases, ASC will help when there is limited traction, occasionally it gets in the way.

If you are running snow chains, you may want to turn it off.
