Need Advice

I Just placed a order for a 2009 Mini Hardtop and the dealership said it should take about six weeks. My problem is that she also said in October is when they start producing the 2010 models. I don't need a new car until the first week October. Is it better to wait for a 2010 model even though the low interest rates probably wont qualify for the 2010 models, or stick with the 2009 model

We can't answer this question for you. Do you really "need" a new car in early October? If so, it may not be wise to cancel your current order.....

If you just want to know whether it's better to wait for a 2010 your going to get mixed opinions based on life circumtsances of others. Unfortunately, we don't have a crystal ball that can accurately tell the future (at least as far as I know). Do your research. There appears to be a refresh rumored to hit the floors in 2011. If you can't wait until then, don't cancel your order. I wouldn't buy a 2009 right now, but, I have a few cars that keep me happy. This situation allows me the patience to wait another year, or two, to buy a 2011.

They are not suppose to debut until March of 2010 then production of the late of 2010. It would be over a year before you will see these changes more than likely.

I'm not concerned about the changes the 2010 will have I'm just thinking does it make sense to buy a 2009 car when the 2010 will probably be out around October even though there wont be any changes, just for resale purposes

blanc71, did your MA say they could deliver a 2010 in early October, or they would start production in early October? I am waiting to order a 2010, but haven't been given any specific information about when I can place the order or when they'll be ready for me to accept delivery. I'm hoping maybe you have some new info!

Also, I want a MINI now, but I also want it configured just the way I want it. So I was looking at needing to place an order anyway. With it being so close to the end of model year 2009, I decided to wait for a 2010 so I didn't take a more of an immediate depreciation hit on a 2009.

From what I've read on motoringfile.com, there will be some changes made to the 2011 model year MINIs that will debut in Spring 2010. But, I definitely don't want to wait over a year to take delivery on a new car!

The 2010 will look like the 2009 model, from what i understand in the reading.

If you can wait, I'd wait. It won't look any different, but once next year comes, the 2010 will be worth quite a bit more than the 2009.

You can get a much better interest rate on an 09 right now which would make up for the depreciation you would take on it when the 2010 comes out.

Gotcha, that topic has been discussed every year. I don't foresee a change in it at all. A low mileage 2009 (late year model) will be worth about the same as a higher mileage 2010 (early 2010 model). Check the KBB 2007 is worth more than the 2008 with the same mileage!

I ordered mine in late 2008 and didn't choose to wait another few months to get one. Guess it all depends on how soon you want to start motoring. (I would leave the resale value out of it from the statement above)

You either buy a mini to drive it and smile/have fun regardless of when you get it OR keep waiting for the next thing to arrive.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the Oxford factory shut down for like a month in the summer? I thought I read that somewhere

You can always wait for the next new and better release of anything, but then you would always be waiting and not enjoying your new _______ (fill in the blank). Some people want to have the first new anything just as it rolls off of the assembly line, but I'm of the opinion that the first one may not have all the bugs worked out yet. You can pick up your 2009 when it comes in and be enjoying it, or you can wait for the 2010 or the (maybe) redesigned 2011. All boils down to personal choices. Let us know what you decide.

I'm not the OP, but I'm still waiting for the 2010s to roll out. I'm still hoping for an updated sound system...and part of me is just testing my will to keep waiting for what I want!!! October does seem awfully far away now though.
