They are melting down excess factory aero kits to make more scoops.

Called M7tuning today and was told that their M7 Aerogel Turbo Heat Shield does not fit the 2011 Cooper S (perhaps all other 2011's). The rep told me that a fix would take a couple of months at the earliest.

so what your saying is that if the car still under warranty and the scoop is warped the dealer will replace it?

I'm on my 3rd scoop, all have been covered under warranty. Just got it replaced right before I hit 50k. The part has a 2 year warranty, so if it warps again, it's covered.

I have the hood heatshield installed now, so I'm hoping that won't happen again.

Wait, so you had it replaced just before 50k, then had it replaced again under the 2-year part warranty after you passed 50k?

LMAO! Beware of this scoop droop thing!! Fighting it and trying to get engine bay temps under control is what got me started on modding my MINI. It got a tiny bit out of control, but at least the scoop don't droop anymore (see sig.)!!

No. I had the 3rd one installed right before I hit 50k. (I think that was in October, if I remember correctly...)

I mentioned my concern about it warping again, after the car was out of warranty, to the svc dept, and they told me not to worry about it because the part has the 2 year warranty.

Well that's encouraging for the R56 I just picked up. But, I'm surprised that stamping a piece of metal reinforcement and molding it in plastic is less expensive to manufacture than just stamping a metal scoop. Apparently it is? Anyway, my main concern is just that my scoop doesn't melt. Fingers crossed.

according to that motoring file link, they fixed the hood scoops on the 2011 and 2012 ones. has anyone with a 11 or 12 develop a saggy scoop? i was looking forward to going to the dealership with a saggy scoop and trying to persuade them to give me a cf one for a highly discounted/free price lol

Didn't wait.... NM Titanium Heat Shield. After install, drove to see Way in Atlanta (4 hours in July) and scoop was only warm to the touch.

Having my Scoop replaced today

They want to charge me $32 for the heat shield. I squawked a little and said MINI should pay for it - it's cheaper than replacing the scoop again, but the SA said MINI wouldn't go for it. It's worth the $32 to me.

Honestly, how cheap can MINI get?

2011 here w/16K on the clock. My scoop is as good as brand new; however, I might not be a good test case because the first thing I did when I purchased the vehicle is put one of these $26 beauties on as insurance...

It's tied with my LightinSight as the best value mod.
