R56 WOW!
Enjoy it...before the averages get you
After a couple thousand miles without resetting the display, maybe more, I average 36.2, mostly highway driving, using 91 octane gas.
29 mpg? Sounds like lots of city driving, little freeway. I'd check my tire pressure. I thought Texas had 93 octane, and if you use that I'd think it would give your mpg a lift.

I've had the gallons spontaneous change to British gallons, you do get surprisingly high mpgs that way.
I also had British gallons when I didn't realise that setting British English in the configuration would make him use British gallons. I was trying to work out what changed when you set him to British, now I know.

A lot of stop and go traffic. I guess I'll just have to be happy with my 28-29.

Averages are tricky, too. I do a lot of releatively short trips and before the engine gets up to operating temps, mpg is not that great. On longer trips, or discounting the warm-up time, my manual Cooper does fantastic!!!
No not all highway it's a mix.
I don't think it's set to British gallons. How do I tell? I have searched through my owners manual and I don't see where I can check/change that setting.
Yes I do expect it will go down if I don't reset for awhile. But if I can maintain 36-38 I'll be happy. Thats a lot better than i was getting with my last car.

Has anybody found any cost effective mods to help with the mpg? I know I can do exhaust and intake mods to help but they will never pay for them selfs.
