DARN! Strut tower bolt snapped! -- 3 questions

I snapped a strut tower bolt putting on the M7 plates. The directions said 25 ft/lbs and the torque wrench was set to that.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Is the 25 ft/lb recommendation accurate?

On realoem.com it looks as if on the R56 the pin (#12) is separate from the support (#1). Can someone verify that I just need to buy the pin?

Question #1: not to me.

Question #2: I just moved my struts in for a tad more negative camber and torqued the nuts to 25 lb./ft. without a problem. I'm pretty sure that's the correct setting, but I can't swear by it.

Question #3: I can't tell from the schematic what the pin is. There's the locater pin for the factory camber setting that you can remove. Is that what you mean?

Hope something there helps.

The strut tower nuts torque to 34Nm. You can still drive with the remaining two until you get a replacement strut hat.Unfortunately a replacement is around $100 and some labor costs unless you DIY. If you decide to DIY there's a great thread with pics here.https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ltamini-3.html

the part is orderable, $13 each at pelicanparts.com but I'm not sure if it's as simple as punching on out and putting in the new one.

might be worth a try at $13 vs $100+

The "pin" or threaded stud can be replaced, they just press in and out.

Thank you, all! I'm picking up the pin today and I'll see if that works. I'll post comments after I fix so if anyone else runs into this problem in the future they have a reference.

Partsman:

I tried to "press", I tried to pry, I tried to punch. Would the pin come out easier if the car is jacked up and the weight off the strut?

I would definitely take the weight off it. You may even need to put it in a vise and use a socket that clears the stud.
