R56 Touch up paint
If you want just the touch up paint, it can be ordered from Paintscratch.com for about $15 plus shipping. (if they have your color, that is). I think lots of people around here have ordered from there. Also, you might try one of the dealerships that are vendors here...they might be able to get it for you cheaper than $30. That price sounds pretty high to me, but then again, dealership parts departments are not known for their bargains!
I've been looking for paint touch up options myself for a while and just last night decided to order the Dr. Colorchip kit (comes with the paint and the leveler). Dab it on, dry for a bit and then polish off the excess with the solution in the kit. It's supposed to fill the chips somewhat and get rid of the "glob" left by the touch up paint.
Lots of people use Langka with the factory touch up paint and have lots of success with it. It's the same idea.....blob the paint on the chip, let it dry, then use the Langka solution to level the paint with the original paint, theoretically making the chip disappear.
I went with the Dr. Colorchip option because the touch up paint comes with it in the kit. If it's not perfect, that's o.k. for me since I'll probably end up having the bonnet repainted at some point in the future. I have LOTS of chips (probably more than 2 dozen) just on the bonnet! I'm just looking for something to improve the appearance for now so I can buy myself a little more time before I have to repaint.
Good luck!

30$ sounds about right for the paint pen and the top coat. Google might save you four $ off that price if you're diligent.
I paid a little under that for a bottle of touch up paint for my corolla and that didn't include the top coat.

Stick with dealer.
I paid $25 for my touch up stick but I have the satisfaction of knowing its the right dang color!
I have the Langka kit too and you have to be careful with the "blob eliminator". It's way too easy to remove some of the clearcoat with it.

I have the drcolorchip stuff. Works real well.

chip in paint
Help! I have the smallest of chip in the front on the bumper. I want to fix it but I don't know what to buy or do.
How do I fix this little boo boo.
Thanks for any suggestions. I did read where to buy the paint but I don't know if I need the three steps. Basecoat, clear coat and paint.

Got a pic of the results? Been thinking about trying it but haven't really heard from others on how well it works. On a scale of 1 (worst) to 10 (best), how would you rate it?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Pics would be hard, I fixed the chips then had a clear bra installed.
But if 10 is factory perfect I would give it a 7, could probably be a 9 with patience. Takes a little time, but worth it, and the paint really does match well.

The "paint" on your car is a system consisting of a color base coat, covered by a clear coat. In the industry they call this a base clear system.
You can find touch up paint in this same two part system, a bottle of base and a bottle of clear (the MINI kit comes this way).... and you can also find one step products where the base and clear have been mixed if you want to think of it that way. {what you're getting tho is a totally different system,; a one step product like an acrylic enamel .. so long as the color matches you probably don't really care} You can also find different application systems: bottles with brush, pens and spray cans. There's a lot of options out there.
The other systems described like Langka (I use this one) and Dr Colorchip are tools to improve the application of the paint ... these help smooth the blob that typically results from applying t/up paint with a brush - ESPECIALLY the brush in the cap of most t/up products!
I've used this place for years with good success on their color match.

they will supply factory color in bottle, pen, spray can or bulk. I've used all but bulk from them with satisfaction (buy my quarts and gallons locally).
I've given up on the pens and apply the products (bottle or bulk) with a super fine artist brush (try Michael's craft supply or any art supply and get at least a double zero.....smaller is better) then follow up with Langka. I guess my pref' for that over Dr Col'chip is the same some tout as the DC advantage: DC comes with the paint (color). I buy Langka once and can use it on all 5 cars...each a different color. Reading the instructions the systems sound very similar....but I'll admit I've not used DC so can not offer a direct comparison.
http://www.langka.com/ you'll find a complete "how to fix a chip" here
and lately I'f been doing my chip and scratch repair with an airbrush .... yet another way to go if you have the tools
