Need opinions from other Laser Blue owners. Paint scheme.

My '08 is laser blue with white roof, white mirror caps and white stripes. When I first saw a mini that I really liked, it had the same setup with white crown wheels.

I've always loved that look. I didn't go with it because I was afraid I would be cleaning the white wheels all the time.

I was thinking of changing my white trim to black but have recently decided to keep what I have.

What I do want to know, what do ya'll think if I powdercoated these wheels in white?

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Mark

I don't have a laser blue, but I defiantly think you should do the centers of the webspokes white.

Thanks Creeve, I just realized how wrong that came across. I shouldn't have made it sound like only Laser Blue owners can respond...

So sorry.... your opinion has been approved. LOL

Thanks bud,

Mark

I agree with your first thought. Seems like a lot of cleaning would be involved. But I like the look of white wheels.

Leave it the way it is, use the money on coilovers instead.

Edit: As a previous owner of white wheels, your fears are completely justified.

I have a laser blue with white wheels. Spend some money on Hawk Ceramic brake pads and something like Rejex. Your wheels will be white for weeks and easier to clean when they do get dusty. I'm just amazed at the difference. The dust that is there isn't as dark too, so you don't notice it as much. I like the feel of the pads too.

How about White Viper Stripes on the hood and Laser Blue Viper Stripes on the Roof?

and White Wheels with some hint of Laser Blue on the wheels...maybe cut some Laser Blue Vinyl patterns and put them on the wheels.

I think that the painted silver wheels and Laser Blue are not that great a combo. However, with the factory brake pads you would only have white wheels for the first few miles after cleaning them.

I got fed up with brake dust and had some Carbotech Bobcat pads installed. Got them from AutoXCooper.com. The braking is as good or better, and the dust is minimal. The downside is that I wont get free pad replacements in the warranty period, but it was worth it to me.

Another idea would be have the wheels done in Laser Blue, or a darker blue that looked good with it. Then consider doing all of your chrome in blue or white. IMO, Laser Blue just doesn't look that good with chrome. Personally, I'd probably do all the trim in a dark blue.

I agree. They get covered in brake dust and look horrible. Different pads may help.

Thanks guys....

One question though. What if brake dust wasn't a problem? Do you think my wheels in white would look good?

Thanks,

Mark

I think you should do it. If you can figure out how to get around the brake dust problem, go with the white wheels, it will look gorgeous on your car. One of the local guys has a 2k7 LB with white roof and white crown spokes and it's gorgeous. I really think that LB and white wheels were made for each other. He changed his brake pads and hits the wheels with some sort of wheel wax so all he has to do is come by with a swiffer every now and then to remove brake dust.

I only have one suggestion. As another poster mentioned, find someway to incorporate the laser blue color into the wheels. I think that it would give it a custom touch that would make it like no one else's. Maybe redo the center caps so that the black part of the MINI logo is LB with the white "MINI" still showing through? Not sure how easy that would be to do, but I think it would look so effing amazing.

I wish I had the skills to do something similar.

You know I had to chime in! I lean towards the black accents personally, but I do think the white wheels would tie into the roof and mirror caps though. I'd get them powder coated and just plan on cleaning them a bit more. Either way, I'm sure you won't skimp! BTW, I like the white wheels on the old Electric Blue, so our color should be fine. Just to keep ya guessing, here's my Clubbie with with black trim.

Thanks Dale, you beat me to it. I was going to send you a PM and get your opinion. (bodyman to bodyman)

I really wanted to go with the black but in order to do that, I'd have to pull the sunroof cassette and replace the weatherstripping.

I have no problem with the weatherstripping but it's like a 10-12 hour job and I don't want to go through all that just to paint the roof.

Soooo, guess white wheels it is. I absolutely love the crown spokes in white so I'm hoping mine look as good too.

I'm not overly worried about the extra cleaning because I use our pressure washer in the detail bay at least 2-3 times a week.

I'm not planning on painting them, I want to powdercoat them so they don't take a beating at the track.

Thanks,

Mark

I like the silver look. I was thinking of blacking-out all of my chrome. I had the white wheels and it was just too white

I'm actually going to put some white powdercoated Enkei 18"s on my Laser Blue/White roof this week. I'll post pics when it's all done.

Blue lip may look to rice for me I think...

I guess I'd have to see a pic.

No disrespect meant but I like the white better.... and mine will still have silver lips. Guess we'll see.

Alta Performance has them.

I bought the Black w/Red Lip for the PW/B MCSa. Just waiting for them.

They list for $139 and some change which is pretty cheap for an 09' wheel.

LB w/ White

I like the look, but white rims are hard to keep clean with the stock pads

My MINI is BRG with white roof and mirror caps (no stripes). I ordered it with the white wheels and love the look. Yes harder to keep clean but I think it tied the look together nicely. The silver wheels just did not look right. When my MINI arrived at the dealer they all commented on how nice the wheels looked, they had never had one come in with white wheels before (so they said). It is just a more unified look.

I think white wheels will look too girly IMO even though it will tie in very nicely with the white top... I like black top Minis with black wheels and white top Minis with silver wheels...

Ben,

I think you may be right. All last week I've been staring at my car (doing the squinty eye thingy) to see if I'd like it. As of yesterday I was set to turn them to white.

By last night, I was thinking about the too girly thing. It might be a little much for me. (no disrespect to those that have white wheels)

Girly? I am 6'2" and 300 lbs and nothing girly about me. I get lots of comments from guys about how nice the white wheels look. Never one comment about it being girly (until now and I totally disagree). If you think back to the 70's and 80's almost every jacked up 4x4 had white rims on it and had guys driving them.
