Mudflaps - front and rear

Anyone get MINI mudflaps installed on their MCS? If so, just the front or the rear too? Can you provide some pics...trying to get an idea of how it looks. Not sure if the back would even be need given the car nearly stops right after the rear wheels.

i have an 02 MC and am wondering if there are rear mud flaps. the back of the car gets covered in road grime as soon as i look at the road after i wash it. it seems that the rear tires kick water and dirt directly onto the boot of the car. i would love to fing some nice looking mud flaps.

Have you looked at the MINI accessory mudflaps?

Yes, for an '02 MC (non-S) rear mud flaps are part #82160149289 from the dealer. However, the benefit of rear flaps is minimal. Most of the grime comes not from rear tires kicking it up, but from the MINI's aerodynamics pulling air up from underneath the car.

Seems to be a personal preference, but from the replies I have gone through so far, most seem to prefer it with them.

Love my mudflaps. Before I got them installed, I would get streaks of mud and gross down the doors when there wasn't a cloud in the sky and the roads were bone dry. After I got them installed... no more streaks down the doors. Front flaps work great... rear flaps don't do jack, but I do like the look of them on the car. It makes it look a little less naked.

I don't have an S, but this is what the rear flaps look like. It's hard to get a photo of the front flaps, but you can kind of see them in this picture.

I think it makes the rear look wider, which in my opinion, is cool.

front flaps are functional, rear not so (unless to balance out the look.)

Front seems functional, not sure I like the rear the more I look at them; makes the tires look smaller LOL kind of takes away from the unique design of the rear.

you notice them because you're staring at them! Once they're on, you forget that they are there.

I considered the mudflaps, but just didn't care much for the look (from others' pictures). So I opted to have additional clear bra vinyl installed along the lower third of both sides of the car. So far, (since Aug. 08), it has held up well and caught a lot of the 'sidespray' from the tires.

They work.

I seen a couple of postings stating that they don't think the rear "splashguards" don't really work. I would have to disagree. I've noticed while driving on wet roads, that the water on the rear window seems to bead up and roll down the window. Not like before where the window seemed a lot more blurry.

I'm not a big fan of using the rear wiper alot as it ends up leaving scratch marks in the window over time the pattern of the wipe arc. I only use it when backing up in the rain. Sure the window still gets dirty, but I just think there is less dirt. Oh, and I like the way they look. The rears do take some getting used to, but inconjunction with the fronts, it gives a nice balanced look. The front splash guards are a must if you want to keep the rear plastic fender extensions from getting chewed up by small road debris. My 10 cents.

Agree the front ones are functional, but you mean you think the rear ones prevent less dirt on the rear window?

You are right that the rear ones take some getting use to; seems the front ones are more integrated while the rear ones make it look heavy and give the rear view a totally different profile. Instead of the lower panels curving in with the unique design on the MINI, the rear mudflaps seem to give it the look then of every other car and kind of detracts.

I disagree with your assessment... but then I have a car with the rear mudflaps installed. I wasn't sure I was going to like the look when I got them, but I wanted the car to be balanced in its appearance from front to back so I went with them and ended up really liking the result. Before I had the mudflaps installed it was really easy to see the struts under the car (at least I think that's what those are... I'm no gearhead by any stretch of the imagination ) and I wanted them hidden from the eye because I felt it made the car look cheap.

I recommend you go out to a dealership and look at cars with them installed yourself. The overall exterior look of a MINI is very important for each driver and is different for every individual car. You should choose what you like best and what suits you but go look at them on the car. Photos never do these wonderful little cars justice.

And here I got the mudflaps purely for the looks.
The car looked naked/cheap without them.

I have mudflaps front and rear. Though the back probably do little as far as keeping dirt off, I think the front flags help. And in my opinion a Mini looks good with them or without. It's just a personal choice.

Mine has the front flaps only, and I agree they work well. The rear ones look a little oversized and funny to my eye, so I passed on those. The "naked" look with the tires and suspension showing seems a little sportier and that's the look I'm happy with.

On the other hand, my sister-in-law has both front and rears on her MC and thinks they look great. That's the fun of the Mini - customizing it to your individual taste.

I think they look good on the back. I think they help somewhat, but the aerodynamics of the MINI will plaster dirt all over the rear. It's what happens with a square back.

Now ain't that tasteful?

The girl was Photoshoped on there as a joke for another thread. Don't have a straight photo readily available.

Yeah, does seem to be a personal preference really. Some cannot stand the look of the front mudflaps let alone the rear ones, some like just the front, and others wouldn't have it any other way besides all four. Seems to also be dependent on the wheel size, wheel design, exterior color, model (base, S, or JCW), etc.
