R56 Told that fog lights can not be programmed?
Told that fog lights can not be programmed?
Hi all! I am thinking of buying a mc off the lot, but wanted front and rear fog lights. I was told by the dealer that they could order the front fog lights and all the parts, but that they have no way of programing it to make it work. Has anyone else had this problem? It doesn't make sense to me. If this is true, does anyone know if there are any after market solutions for front and rear fogs? thanks in advance.
I'm not so sure about the R56 models ('07-newer), but I do know that 'retrofit' kits are available for the older models. It would really surprise me if there aren't similar retrofit kits for the R56's...
It is definitely possible to retrofit and program the rear fogs. Several people described having it done in this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...-retrofit.html
I haven't heard of anybody retrofitting the front fogs on an R56, but it doesn't make sense that programming wouldn't be possible. However if the car isn't prewired for front fogs (it wasn't in 1st gen MINI), installation labor may be fairly expensive.

thanks for the responses. When you stated that you have seen it done, does that mean the rear fogs or the front? I am guessing the rear can be done, as it has been posted on this forum. Do you know if a car audio place would be able to install the rear fog light, or will it cost just as much as the dealer. I would not want to attempt such a project myself. Hats off to all that do.

lucyred62...I think I was at the dealership when you called - I talked to the service techs b/c I was surprised myself and there is no way for them to code the computer to allow the 2nd toggle switch in the center stack to activate the front fog lights. That comes from the factory only. I'm sure you can install them to a separate switch but your MC won't display in green that they are "on" in the center speedometer.
