The M7 Heat Shield still gets very hot to the touch but it seems to spread the heat out over a larger area instead of concentrating the heat right under the scoop as the "shieldless" turbo does. I attached a thermo blanket under the scoop with a cutout to let the cool air in and hot air out through the scoop opening after shut down. I think just the thermo blanket would have been enough as it kept the scoop area very cool. The addition of the M7 shield had a minimal effect in my case. On the attached photo you can see where I installed the blanket and later cut out the scoop area with a flap going onto the inside top area of the scoop. The blanket has adhesive on one side and I also put thermo tape on the edges. Might not look that nice but it works great! The blanket and tape were $20 compared to about $200 for the M7 heat shield.

Benibiker,

What type of thermo blanket are you using? Thermo tec?

Is the glue still holding after a few heat cycles? Is there any burning over time?

I used Thermo Tec around the edges but in the middle area I used a "Cool Ride Self-Adhesive Super Insulated Sheet" (P/N CR2424 at HRPWorld.com). It's 1/8" in thickness and I haven't had any burning and I've had it on about 2 months. At first the glue would let go on the Thermo Tec but after pressing it down a couple of times it held. No problems with the glue on the Insulated Sheet though.

Just curious as to why you used two types of themal blanket? Why not just the cool ride? Thanks.... seems like an easy "fix" and I may give it a try.

The Thermo Tec is about as thick as duct tape and the thermal blanket is 1/8" in thickness. I used the Thermo Tec around the edges of the blanket to keep the internal fibers from coming out of the edges.

Excuse my ignorance, but how does the heat shield keep the temp DOWN? I'd think this would only serve to keep the heat in and raise the actual temp under the hood.

Has anybody drilled additional holes in their scoops? There seems to only be about 30-40% of the available slots actually cut out of the scoop design.

Nope. There is a vented portion of the heat blocking material that allows air from the scoop in.

Cheers.
Could you elaborate as to why the install on the wrap was difficult?

Did you use anything other than the self-adhesive to secure it under your bonnet?

I'm going on 5,000 miles with the thermo blanket and the heat shield, still no warping... Who knows it might not have warped either way...

Just ordered the thermo blanket. Not quite so cheap anymore! They must have read your thread! Anyway, how's it going? Still working well? Any downsides?

Now going on 8,000 miles, still no issues. At first the self adhesive blanket wanted to come un-glued but it eventually stuck on there.

I drilled out all the center slots on my recently replaced scoop + I bought the M7.

this pic is before I cleaned it up with a file...but you get the idea (white paper is there just to show the openings)
