Fuel level lights - question

I have searched, and I see some people have gas gauge complaints. Mine isn't a complaint....more like a question. I swear I'm not crazy! But am I seeing things?

At 300 miles on this tank, and I am down to only 4 lights lit up. They are still orange, they are not red. However, once it clicked down to four lights, I SWEAR I saw them flucuating in intensity. Not blinking....but dimming, then getting stronger, then dimming, then getting stronger. Not even flickering...it was all very slight and deliberate.

Am I trippin? Or is that happening in your reality too?

I should add, the trip computer works great. I am averaging 35 MPG's and it says I have around 160 miles left on my current tank. That is excellent!

Yep, you are going crazy . The only time the fuel lights dim is when you adjust all the lights on the instrument cluster. They will turn red at the last 2 carrots, and they will go very quickly, unlike the first 3 or 4.

Crap. Thanks for the reply. But CRAP! Thats an electrical problem if there ever was one, I think.

Actually, I wonder if its the light sensor mentioned here. It is cloudy today and I was driving under a semi-canopy of trees when I saw it happening. Headlights ON. I didn't notice it anymore when I got into the parking garage - only happened on street I think.

juju,

I have a few questions because you may not be going crazy as you think nor an electrical problem.

Where were you when you saw this phenomenon? I.E. tunnel, under a bridge, etc.

What time of day was it? Dusk or dawn, noon, midnight

Did you have your lights on?

The reason I ask is that if i have my light set to Auto and go thru a certian tunnel I get what you are describing. They dim and get bright about once a second. In my car it is caused by the Auto Lights sensor turning on and off. In other words the dash lights are going from day time to night time (light off to lights on) back and forth thru this one tunnel and the dash lights are slightly dimmer during the night compared to the day.

Hope this helps

I think we are in the clear, based on this. The search function here is sooooo picky!
