Only if you assume a linear mapping between the guage and what is in the tank. As others have pointed out, that would be an incorrect assumption.

I just fasten the seatbelt, on the rare occasions when my purse and/or Yorkie set it off. It lies flat against the seat if it's not fastened around someone.

But seriously...today my 07 MCS shows 5 of the 10 candy corns gone, so the tank would be HALF FULL, right? WRONG! At the pumps, it takes 9.77 gallons to fill it. The tank holds 13.2 gallons. So the car shows half full but in reality has about 26% of the tank left. I find that unacceptable.
I can go around 270 mi between 'Full' and '1/2'; then I can only go about 80 mi between '1/2' and the Low Fuel warning. Seriously? Quite idiotic.

Not too surprising, given that full to 1/2 isn't the same volume as 1/2 to low fuel! This is one of those cases where the glass that's half full isn't the same as the glass that's half empty.

Incidentally, low fuel means just that--LOW fuel. Down to the last (what is it? 2?) gallons. You're probably better off punching the stalk to find out how miles are left, regardless of the lights on the gas gauge. There's still an error, of course, because the computer mpg is not spot on, but unless you're 425 miles between stations, it's close enough. And if you are, just fill up every time you see one!

Yeah, the non linear aspect of the fuel gage is annoying. My Volvo has it's gas guage marked off in gallons and it is accurate, so It can be done.

Adapting quickly

Yeah, I filled it for the third time a few says ago and am quickly learning to interpret the fuel gauge. It just seems severely counter-intuitive. I've noticed this phenom in other cars I've owned, but the difference between the first and second halves has been within 10% or so.

Yeah the mpg rating is way wrong in the comptuer. It showed I had 31 miles left on sunday but turned out it was zero. Was on the way to the gas station but fell a bit short. Had to call and get some gas brought to me.

What drives me nuts? The steering. It's overboosted and completely lacking in road feel. And that's in "Sport" mode. The non-sport mode is a complete joke.

This car needs manual steering, or a "power steering delete" option. I'd gladly pay extra to have a manual rack rather than this electric lifeless crap. Word is they've done something to improve feel in the '11 models. If it's still electric and I assume it is, good luck with that. It might be better, but it still won't be right.

The only thing that bugs me daily is how the driver side door does not want to stay open while I'm getting out of the car. It swings open, stops, and then wants to swing back shut just as I'm getting out. After 5 months of this it's starting to bug me.

It's just your car wanting to swat you back into the driver's seat--you're not done motoring yet!

Amazing how many of the same things bother many of us. Maybe MINI should fix it. The door closing, I think, is dangerous. If you go past 1st stop but not past the 2nd the door will close the entire way and can catch your leg.

The gas gauge is also sort of worthless. I can go 100 miles before the first light goes out, another hundred does the next 2 light and then it drops like crazy.

Ordered June 8th. MA estimates we will be motoring on July 20th - pretty darn fast turn around actually.

Just rode my Honda Ruckus over to the bank and post office, saw a yellow MINI with a personalized plate that reads LETSMTR....

We are located by Tacoma, WA in an area also known for Daffodils - have an annual Daffodil parade in 4 cities same day.

Here's a Daffy shot of the rig that was just sold to be replaced by the MINI.........

Trying to see if I'll turn green with envy? Yeah, I will. Actually, I've spent much of the past few hours looking through internet real estate listings in Arkansas. Both motoring and daffodils are great there!

I ordered mine on December 13 (2006), and picked Zippeee! up on February 21. Not too bad, given that they weren't released until a few days earlier. It was rough, though. Not the least of which was that my 13-year-old BMW with 190,000 miles on the clock was making expensive funny sounds and I just wanted to get through the period without dropping a bundle on it. I did.

Hmmm, why do I get the feeling you like the retro look (and real thing)? Here's one of ours:

Oh yeah, the Mini armrest only supports an iPhone, that sucks. And Mini link is an iPhone App. iPhones don't work in my neighborhood!

That's what that little clippie do-jigger is for, to prevent the belt from slipping next to the door.

The pedals aren't quite right for heel and toe. Not for my ankle anyway.

It's definitely harder to drive smoothly than most sporting cars that I've owned, but I'm enjoying the challenge.
