On my 1st Gen S the placement of the heated seat buttons - I continually accidently bump them when I wiggle around in my seat - doesn't drive me "nuts" but it happens frequently on trips.

3) Annoying useless stupid dumb alert letting you know it is cold outside (snowflake) can't be disabled. I mean, who thought it was a good idea to report it as cold when it is cold? Do we really somehow not manage to detect it is cold? No. So the car just wants us to be told the obvious.

This drives me mad and I have the scars on my left shin to prove it.

I would rather not read thru 11 pages of threads. That being said I would like to know how to turn off the alarm for "key in accessory" when the door is open.. It is really obnoxious. If anyone has any idea?

For those that say the you must be in neutral when starting the car is mistaken. Regardless of gear, you just need the clutch disengaged. Most if not all cars with clutches you need to press and disengage the clutch to start the car. What's the point of driving a car with a stick if you don't have all the features of it. Go get yourself and automatic. Even auto's have to have the brake depressed, this is such in my mother's Altima.

I have an 09 S and I have one touch up for windows. Wonder when they implemented this across the board. Moon roof is still hold down to close.

This can be fixed by coding the SHD module. Change SCHIEBEHEBEDACH_TIPP_HEB, SCHIEBEHEBEDACH_TIPP_SENK, SCHIEBEHEBEDACH_TIPP_AUF, and SCHIEBEHEBEDACH_TIPP_ZU all to activ, and it will enable one-touch open and close. You will need to reinitiate the sunroof after coding the module (directions found here).

I just did this myself this morning!

Um,... after months of swearing at it I found the screws on the hinges were loose - tightened them and it has never happened again unless on a severe incline,....

I really hate all of the brake dust, before I can go 300 miles my wheels are almost black! Got to either get some Red Stuff with Centric blank rotors or get a BBK.

I have black wheels....., and still have brake dust showing. Planning on getting Hawk pads later on.

The one thing I really find annoying is that the drivers sun shade doesn't reach all the way to the A pillar. Early morning or late afternoon sun is blinding!

All Mini needed was a single telescoping main shade that would position along the drivers side window and slide along the length of the window. My MCS wheels only look really nice for the first 50 miles, after that it's down hill from there.

Coming from the Hot Rod world, my biggest complaint would be all the expense and "hoops" you have to jump through in order to "modify" a 2011 MCS. I HATE black boxes, that you have to have some kind of computer to modify the vehicle's dynamics. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE my Mini, and the handling/mileage. Just frustrated at the dollar cost to "get more" from this little rocket! I have done the simple/easy/cheap mods, like resonator delete, drop-in PiperCross foam air filter, new NGK plugs. I removed the restrictive black piece from my hood scoop, in order to get more turbo cooling, I hope. I have (with the help of my techno-savvy wife) set all of the auto unlock/lock/blinkers and other stuff to "personalize" my Mini. I am not looking for a "world-beating" Mini, just a bit more. I love the sound of the Borla exhaust, but the price? I put a Borla Full Race exhaust on my father's 2001 Corvette back in the day, on my back, in the garage, and I don't think it was more than $850.00. Why the hell do simple mods cost so much for my Mini? Maybe the BMW name has come true again, "Bring More Washingtons".

I'm with you 100000000% here. Although I thought BMW meant "Bring Money With-ya" (wit-cha depending on your accent). Either way, that's my biggest complaint too.

Second big complaint is the ridiculous amount of effort to do anything to make the stock audio system better. You can replace speakers, but the factory head unit clips audio below a certain frequency, so replacing speakers doesn't help really.

Third complaint is the run-flats. They suck. I replaced them with other tires (not RFTs) and life is so much nicer. I just need to get a compressor and some slime in case I get a flat.

My other complaint is the paranoia that something will go wrong. I keep reading all these threads about N14 problems, and while I have the N18 in my R56, I'm still worried that it's going to crap out on me someday.

This can also be done with NCSExpert. It is listed in the spreadsheet on the main NCSExpert thread. While you are there might as well get rid of the seatbelt chime - just as annoying.

I wouldn't be overly concerned, provided that you keep up with oil levels. From what I've heard--and my own experience--most of the problems come with people coming in with 2 quarts of oil in their engine at a 15,000 mile oil change interval. That was supposed to be the interval when I got my '07, and it's ridiculous. We change oil much more frequently, and the dealer mechanics I spoke to told me that's the most important thing to do to prevent problems, especially with the timing chain issue. Mine was replaced at 88,000 miles, and later reimbursed by MINI USA when the service "campaign" (otherwise known as a recall) came out. I now have over 100k on my car, with no further concerns.

Whenever I get out of the car, my foot hits the door right where the bottom speaker is. I've already cracked the cover and if it keeps happening it's going to break open. >_<

Also, when you are low on fuel, the computer hijacks the digital speedometer. I never look at the analog one, and it's irritating to have to cancel the warning every time I want to check my speed.

I have a few other gripes, but my biggest is the fact that the rear windows don't open. I don't understand why they thought it was a good idea to make it with fixed windows. At the very least they should open like the rear windows on most minivans... (picture below)

I wouldn't recommend letting your fuel tank get to the low on fuel warning very often. The fuel pump is in the tank and the fuel helps to keep the pump cool. It will lead to an early replacement of said pump.

Totally agree about the windows. It would be nice to have the hatch back window crack open at the bottom to get some air flow!

the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel it pumps not the fuel it is immersed in ... this is straight from bosch when i managed a race team

the other common internet fallacy is picking up trash in the tank if you let the fuel level get low ... the pump ALWAYS picks up fuel from the low spot of the tank so trash gets picked up as soon as it enters the tank

Hmm not many complaints so far. Bought it about a month or two ago. Cost to do anything/the value of the car hurts me. (But I'm 21 and just bought a house soo I'm poor for a lot of reasons haha).

Second would be the factory radio, sometimes the display is spotty. Faded in some spots but other days its fine. (could this be a fuse issue? Someone told me that but it sounds like an excuse if nothing else.) And the fact that I cant use just any USB cable with my iphone. Still trying to get my hands on a y cable..

Third would be the lack of a one touch sun roof. I know there is a way to modify the software but I just bought the car so give me time to getting around to it haha.

OOOO and the worry that I cant get into my hatch without power so I have to keep jumper cables up front. Cant hide them behind the back seats with all my other clutter. I know older MINI's had a cable under the back seats but the 2010 doesnt seem to. Is there a way to install it?

When I purchased my MCS last year my LCD was faded also, sometimes it was alright other times seemed faded. Leaving your Mini in the hot sun and hot interior is what causes it, happens over time. You would have to replace the entire center speedometer/radio, don't you dare go and have the dealer replace it, independent repair shop is best for your wallet! Another thing in hot weather some have found that the sunroof needs a little help to open.

Mine got both problem and I would try to avoid leaving my mini under strong heat for prolonged time or get a sun shade for the windscreen, that would help a bit for the LCD, still no cure for the sun roof tho, after replace the seal and lube it and adjust it.

Seen worst LCD on my friends E90 325i, completely unreadable even it was cooled down........

For years now these problems haven't been addressed by BMW even before the 1st gen Mini's came out, I think they enjoy making profits on car sales at the cost of quality that goes into their cars.

Yes agree 100%, high demand i know but sheesh....also hate that i love the car so much. Today got hit while shopping at Whole foods, chewed up left corner of front bumper. Gotta have it fixed of course so get the feeling my girlfriend is going to start asking questions about why we're broke
