2+ Weeks out and our car is still "on order" - should I be worried?

I ordered a 2009 Base MC two weeks ago Wednesday, in the owner's lounge it is still showing as "on order". The MA said it should be here in 8 weeks, and 25% of that time is gone now.

I realize we're in the model year changeover and all, so that might add delays but at what point should I actually get concerned about this?

Answers I have read in other threads about order to production status ran from 1 day to "several weeks".

Welcome to the Waiting Game.... Mine showed "on order" for about 3 weeks before starting production. Once that happened, It was @ the dealership before I knew it. I cant get it until September though because I bought it out of state and picking it up on my vacation.

Ordered my 09 MCSa 7/12 and still shows on order but supposed to start production next week according to Ask Mini. So you need to be patient. I ordered an 08 but dealer could not get a slot so it became an 09 which is part of my delay.

I ordered my 2009 JCW on July 2nd, and it still shows up as "on order" with no production date...

FYI folks, the owner's lounge is notoriously incorrect! Call ask mini or your MA and they can give you an up to date status on the car.

Placed my order in the beginning of July. My MCS won't go into production until 9/21-ish. So...yeah, the waiting game. Good luck dealing with it.

Might I recommend Valium?

I wonder if paint color has an impact on your order placement. We ordered Oxygen Blue, which seems to be a rare color, I'd figure they would wait until they had a batch of orders in a particular color before they ran them through the paint booths....

Any thoughts on this?

Is that Irish (**** O'Geezer)?

Sorry, I can't resist playing with words... .

I ordered my chili red MC-S on August 14. As of this morning, the ASK-MINI automated voice said it was "scheduled for production - no specific date". (How can that be...schedule means to set a date or time?) Anyway, I talked to a live rep, who told me it is scheduled for production in week 37. Per my separate post, I'm still trying to figure out when that is.

You may want to talk with a live rep...and also ask them how they count the weeks!

when I ordered my 2005 MCS 4 years ago the OL still had it "in production" the same day I picked it up from my dealer. Im surprised the whole thing still exists, it is of little help.

Week 37 is next week, trust me. The first week of 09 MY production is 36, this week. My car is scheduled to be built week 39, 9/21-27/08. Find other ways to spend yr energy than figuring out the mysterious English metric weeks haha.

+1

I wouldn't worry about what the owner's lounge says on the status of your car. I remember mine stating "on order" for about 3 weeks or so also, and then it seemed to fly through the other stages quite quickly. I think it's just a matter of someone updating your cars information in "the system" and synching w/ the website.

Week 38

I ordered my car over the phone on 8/25/08. The next day I had correct PN. and options. I called ask Mini a few minutes ago and they told me build date week 38. I am glad I did not wait and keep waiting for lounge updates.

I have seen the error of my ways (thanks to those reading these posts). Week 37 is next week, so yours is the following week. Thank goodness being able to count to 37 isn't one of the requirements for owning a MINI!

Haha, no worries! But, still, that makes me excited as my production should begin the 15th, if I have this all straightened out now

I am waiting to analogeezer... I think it will make the car much more exciting once we get our greedy little hands on our coopers. I am new to the MINI scene I guess you could say and wanted to know What is ask mini? Is there a specific phone number you call or something like that, and if so what is it?

AskMINI is 1-866-275-6464. You can check your build week (if you have a production number) and other sorts of lovely details about your MINI.

Thanks wandrur. It said my order was "confirmed with no specific production date"... I am at MINI'S mercy I guess.

Thanks for the phone number

W- many thanks for the phone number for Ask Mini!

I just called them a few minutes ago and got the "in production" message for a MCS ordered over 2 weeks ago.

Then, I got switched to a live person who gave me a production date of Sept. 8.

WooHoo!

I forgot to ask him if he had a VIN number for the Mini.

BTW, where did you find the Ask Mini phone number?

Go to the "How to Track Your MINI" thread near the top of the 1st Gear forum (https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d.php?t=144057). There you'll find more than any human should know for his/her sanity about tracking a MINI's production. Caution: followers of this thread's advice have reported development of extreme tracking OCD.

2009 Production Process

Based on the posts I've read, it looks as though the wait for '09s isn't any longer than for the '08s. Since I have a week 37 (next week) build date, I am a little concerned about being on the "bleeding edge" of production. Any time there are changes (and I assume there'll be some, even if we don't know exactly what they are), it usually takes a while before all the kinks are worked out of the production process. I just hope the changes address real issues (like the problem of melting hood scoops on S models).

Back when I trained on the assembly line, the first week of the new model year the line was inundated with supervisors and engineers who observed the assembly to make sure that every thing was just right.

The lemons were built after various holidays when people would show up with a hangover. Since the Britishers don't drink there is nothing to worry about.

The British Don't Drink

Thanks Ian, that's comforting!

And for those of you who are trying to figure out the "ask mini" phone number, when you dial 1-866-ASK-MINI you are dialing 1-866-275-6464. (Some prior posters seemed to indicate that they didn't realize this.)
