R56 Bosch AeroTwin Wiper Blades
Bosch AeroTwin Wiper Blades
Hey,
I'm looking at changing my wiper blades to a set of Bosch AeroTwin's.
I'm just not sure on what size I need to buy...
450mm?
475mm?
Thanks.

I would say not. If you could it would of been that way from the start. To be sure test it. Difference is an inch. Get in your car, turn on the windshield wash, watch the arc of the drivers wiper. There will be your answer. The wiper would most likely be too long at 275.
I'm not the OP but can provide some feedback:
In 2016 I had BMW install new wipers on my R56. They fitted the stock ones (i.e. where the driver's side has a "wing" while the passenger side does not). The driver's side was 450mm long, the passenger side 475mm (still have them, just measured). Last summer I fitted Bosch AeroTwins (both sides 450mm as Bosch does not seem to sell them in uneven pairs) I had bought new in 2017 and had in my basement since then. The fact that the passenger side wiper is now one inch shorter does not really make a noticable difference when driving.
However, the AeroTwins (which are supposed to be quieter) do make some noise when there are only a few drops on the windshield. The BMW ones (which I believe are the regular Bosch "Twin" series) never did.
I can't say much about "wiping performance". I had driven the stock BMW wipers at 115 mph (~190 km/h) under significant but not extremely heavy rain and felt safe. With the AeroTwins I have so far only had rain at up to about 80 mph (~130 km/h) with not as heavy rain (and felt equally safe).

The Bosch Aerotwin A856S have uneven pairs (450mm 475mm), but the fact -as you say- that they make little noise when there are a few drops on the windshield, really does put me into thought. Did you notice noise from day one after purchase, or did the noise appear after some time? It is rubber, so i suppose it tends to become hard after some time, so it might be normal, unless noise was there right from the beginning!

I noticed the noise from the first time it rained. It's not too bad but considering that the previous set never made a sound I am a bit disappointed. The AeroTwins are now about as old as the previous ones were when they got replaced. I haven't lost hope that they will eventually be quiet since Bosch states on their german site that the rubber of the AeroTwins is covered with a protective layer and maybe that has become hard with time and needs to be "worked off".
The A 856 S are mounted differently. According to Bosch:
https://aa-boschap-de.resource.bosch...ch_wischer.pdf
they fit the R55, R56 and R57 that were made from April 2012 onwards. For those made before, the list specifies the A 450 S. Check what kind of wipers (Type 1 or Type 7 from the list) your car has before ordering.
Edit:
I only mounted the AeroTwins in early August 2019, about two years after I bought them.
My R56 LCI built in November 2010 has Type 1 wiper arms.

I made the purchase 2 months ago and im happy with them. They clean the windshield very nicely, without any noise! I dont like the fact that they have a bulky joint (thats the plastic connecting the wiper blade, with the wiper arm. It stands out more than the original blades and its kinda nerve breaking until u get used to them.
One thing id like to know is which of the two blades (the longer or shorter) is located on the passenger side and which on the drivers side? Im referring to a left hand drive mini.

Which mounting "type" did you get? Could you please post the Bosch part number?
Don't put your hopes too hig. They still seem ugly and too bulky to me several months later on...
Its the AR450S, they come in a pair of same length but i had to get the standalone pieces, one of 450mm and the other of 475mm.
Only when i remember seeing them they look ugly

Have you tried to deep clean the windshield of 100% of all road film.... A good buffing with an orbital polisher and fine compound will remove it... then do a RainX 2-coat application.
Much of the film on a windshield will NOT come off with cleaners or solvents.... and physical removal is necessary.
Road film you cant often tell if it is there... if you wipe the windshield with a damp towel... and see a hint of the ark of the blade sweep as the water dries.... you have road film. This should get rid of most hard water spots too.
If that doesn't fix it (it often does)... you may need to cant the angle of the wiper arm to bring it into a better angular relation with the glass.... I can imagine the twins to be more sensitive to that.
This vid is for an older car... but you'll get the idea.
