MINI Wipers

Hi Eveyone,
I'm a recent convert to the Mini family, taking ownership of a PW/MCS and after just a few months I can't remember what it's like to be without it. Did I really drive an Audi?
My MCS is equipped with two sizes of wiper blades, a short one on the driver's side and a slighly longer (1") blade on the passenger side. The asymetrical wiper set seems to work quite well and I assumed this was the OE setup. With the recent figid weather here in the NE, my wiper blades frooze to the windshield and tore when I turned the wipers on. When I stopped at the auto parts place to buy new wiper blades, I was told that only one size was listed for the mini and that they didn't stock the rear window blade. I wasn't surprised that the auto parts place didn't stock the rear window wiper, however I was a bit puzzled about the question. I know I can just replace the asymetrical wiper set with new wiper to match what's on my car. But i'm a bit curious to know what the OE setup was.
The Mini manual really doesn't address wiper sizes. Does anyone know what the OE wiper size and setup is?

Thats correct,

the factory size is 18 and 19,

we have many customers running the same 19" on both sides.

I have some PIAA silicone wiper blades in stock, with the weather you guys are getting, maybe these will work better.

Stay warm

Victor

I had a hunch the OE wiper setup may have been asysmetrical. Thanks for the info.

I would agree with this. I got some PIAAs from Tirerack and they were great

As to the rear wiper, Probably MINI OEM is best.

Anything would be better than the OEM. We just took ours in for the first service and instead of getting another set, we figured we splurge for a good set

So glad this topic came up. I need new blades as well. Are the sizes the same for the Cabrio? Obviously not the rear but 18 and 19 for the front? Also can I just get them at an auto parts shop or do I need to order from BMW/Mini? there is nothing on the web site so I thought I'd check.

I went to the local Kragen and replaced mine - they sell them as a single blade (1 of each size) - no problems

When I was in for some warranty work last week ('05 w/22kmi) they replaced all 3...no charge!! I haven't had any issues with the OEM blades.
