Just put in a new Punch P shallow mount 10 inch, Alpine 600 by 1 Amp and a custom built box that fits flush with the lip of the hatchback. Hits hard for a single 10. check the gallery for pic's.

that's exactly what I wanted to do but I wonder how the sounds comes out...

Btw a subwoofer box is not only esthetical.. the dimensions and materials are really important for sound quality so I'm not really convince by those kind of install :s

Understood. I worked in car audio for several years. I would say that it probably rocks. As we know, there are so many subs now that require such a small tight enclosure to product deep tones it is amazing. I did this type in my 1996 Civic years ago off to the side of the trunk in a little pocket so I would still have my whole trunk space. It was not a SPL machine but, it made the interior sound nice and deep and the response was amazing. I was using a JL Audio sub at the time. One 10" sub is all a car needs to make it amazing. Infact, I worked with a camaro one time with one 8" sub in the hatch and everyone guessed that it was at least 2- 10's. I bet this mini sounds pretty awesome as our cabins are so small and tight.

install

I had it done at a shop here locally, they don't let you see how thing are done. So I walked around to the back of the shop to see what I could.. I know they got the power from the battery and there's a factory amp in the left side of the car in that compartment in the rear, that where he tapped into it for the sub signal. I know that from doing stuff myself on many other cars of mines.

hope this help you

It hits very hard for one 10 inch sub. and the box is not that big about half the space of the cargo space in the back, the cover board just give it the complete look. I never plan on putting anything in the back of the car it another fun car for me. One of my other car I have two 12 Diamond Audio with 500 x 1 JL amp you can't breath in the car, i know crazy. So I base it against that and that not fair.. I keep this setup for a month or two and sell it for a one 12. I've became friend with the installer now he got my money we are buddies.!!!

I think it is in the hatch area under the left side, carpeted panel that is removable. I thought I saw mine in there anyway.

Open the rear hatch and you will see a removable little (foot trapezoid) panel on left sidewall.

Pop it out and you will see the amp, also there should be a emergency pull to unlock gas door and access to tailight bulbs are found there.

It's not hard to find when you take the panels off. That aluminum finned box is it.

Be sure you tap into the right place. If you tap into the output side for the rear 6x9s you wont get much bass. I've also heard that getting the wrong wires can trash the OBC because the HIFI amp is tied into the computer network.

New Box Made

I had a custom built fiberglass box made a couple of days. Everything was taken out of the trunk, jack and its carry tray. Then fiberglass was molded into that area with one JL W3 12 sitting in the middle of the old tool box area where the jack used to sit. Then a cover plate/ false floor over it, so if I want to put anything in the back I still can. If not I can exposed the amp so it can be seen. It only raised it 2 or so inches with the false floor/ cover plate, so I still can get into the side compartments as you can see in the pictures provided.

It hit very, very hard with the 600 times 1 Alpine Amp Just Added New Sub and Amp-p2150105.jpg

That is the heat! Do you think you could fit a spare tire on the left side next to the sub? I've always wondered why there are not more after market false-bottoms for the trunk... (bonnett?)

Modern subwoofers can handle a lot more power and operate in a smaller enclosure than older models. (Heck, my first serious subwoofer was a JL Audio 12" that was only rated for 125 W). The days of needing multiple big subs and several cubic feet of enclosure volume are just about gone. If Mini Vette is using the sub I'm thinking of, it only needs 0.5 - 0.85 cubic feet of volume in a sealed enclosure, which makes it a good candidate for a false-floor trunk install.

Also, for a sealed box, the actual dimensions of the enclosure aren't as important as the total volume, so there's nothing inherently wrong with using a wide/shallow enclosure like a trunk floor.

I could have the false bottom done in a way I could have put the tools and jack in it, but why. I think the bass would have rattled the tools out of the tray. The box uses only 0.85 cubic feet of volume in a sealed enclosure and it hits very hard..
Who needs a spare tire! AAA
