rubber mats

What is "THE" best way to clean rubber floor mats so that they shine but are not unduly slippery? There must be a consensus! Help!!!

hahaha, uhm, no idea. i just usually flap it around in the air, until the dust comes off (i do this quite often), and seems to make it clean haha.

Take them out of the car, shake them off, spray them with a hose, allow to air dry. If you really must have shiny floor mats, pick up some Meguiar's quick interior wipes. Wipe them down with those and you will avoid getting greasy and slippery, while dressing up the floor mats a bit.

I love rubber mats, especially in winter when snow, slush, traction sand and road de-icer chemicals can destroy the interior of your car. You'll be glad you got them!

Shiny and slippery go hand in hand, as stated soap and water is the best way to get them clean.

I was really not liking the slipperyness of the rubber mats, so i came up with a bright idea...i went to my local olympia sports and bought a big strip of skateboard grip tape for $6. measured and cut strips for the long lines on the mats and wa la, no more slippage! and it isnt any harder to clean

Then soap and water.

You talking grip tape, I would imagine that would pick up a ton of debris, also not that water proof, but you can always just replace it, I would like to see how it looks though.

I like this idea. Having been a skateboarder growing up grip tape is a great idea. I will have to mention this to my customers. Thanks!

I had the rubber mats in my 03 MC and bought them again for my 07 MCS. I found that if you scrub them they get dull, which is not too attractive, so clean them carefully.

I recently replaced the front mats in the MCS with red/black coco mats. Much more attractive and they stay in position and are not slippery.

How's the durabiliity of the rubber mats? I requested rubber, thinking they'd be easy to clean, but come to think of it - carpet is easy to clean, too, unless you get a spill on it. At least carpet can accept some dust, dirt and small rocks for a while, before it starts to show poorly.

So, I'm second guessing my rubber mats decision, as I've second guessed nearly everything about this car.

One piece of information I found out recently through one of my customers was that the manufacturer of these rubber mats uses natural rubber, not synthetic. They pride themselves on being the only manufacturer in the industry to do this.

Ill post some pictures of the grip tape later tonight when i get home to my camera. so far(about a week) there isnt any extra debris or dirt on the tape. if anything it helps clean out the tread on my shoes a little. and as for not being waterproof, once the glue starts to fail, the sheet of tape i bought has more than enough to do 2 drivers mats. i didnt bother with th passenger side as they dont need to worry about slipping heels.

I dunno, I've skated for years, and man is that stuff a pain to clean... Once you get dirt/mud on it, that'll be on there forever. You can't just wipe it down.

Plus, I could see it wearing down the back of your shoes, especially if you have a manual.
