I realize there are many variables, but any idea how they compare to DynoJet numbers? For instance, do you have any same-car comparisons from cars tested on your dyno and on a dynojet?

Just trying to get an idea of how the hub-mounted dyno's compare to the Dynojets and Mustang Dynos I'm used to
Sorry for the delay! I am going to defer this question to ALTA2 (Jeff) to answer in better detail than I could! Thanks again for asking!

Shortly, but lets just say that the numbers match what Mini claims. Yes that may be unbelivable! Mini under rated the car once again!

So, if I were to dyno a car on the hub dyno and then on a dynojet it *should* yeild similar numbers... and I could "add the typical 15% parasitic loss" to get to crank numbers?

I take it that that's the case given that you're saying it's underrated ... just clarifying.

Not exactly. Our dyno measures the REAL WHEEL HP. So with the numbers we achieved, they include the loss through the powertrain and thus we have been able to deduce that the factory has underrated the TRUE HP of the 09 JCW. Similar to the underrating on the R56 Cooper S.

Hope that helps! Thanks again!

How's that stock JCW TBE compare to yours BTW?

BTW, I imagine if you didn't buy a JCW and started selling a tune for it, folks would bash you for that... Really, is it possible to win in all situations? I think it's a pretty incredible commitment you're taking the $ plunge "eating your own cooking" instead of relying on someone's good graces to use their car as your test mule.

The JCW TBE is far smaller than ours. It does have some marked changes that Jeff (ALTA2) has been polishing details on a big thread about all of them. He has been busy so sorry for the delay!

On the BTW: THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Well put!

Hey Adam,

I'm going to be buying a Mini in the next year or so, and I must say, you guys at Alta put out some impressive products. At least I know that when I get it, my bank account will never be too full. Thanks a lot ya jerks!

Right... the car is making about as much "wheel horsepower" as MINI claims it will at the crank. Therefore, it's underrated.

I'm just trying to figure out how your particular dyno compares to a typical dynojet.

For instance, if the JCW makes 202whp on your dyno... Would it make about 202whp on a Dynojet, or would it make more or less?

Given the many variables, there may not be a legitimate answer... just thought I'd ask.

Our Dynapack is in the middle. So a local Mustang dyno reads a little lower than ours, about 5% Wheel HP less. But a dynojet normally reads about 15% higher than ours. On the other hand a Dyno Dynamics dyno reads typically 10-12% less than ours. There is no way to compare unless the same car hits all the dynos it can in a day or 2.

But we have lots of stock R56 runs, modded R56 runs, Stock R53 runs, and modded R53 runs, in our library. The R53's all run less HP than they are rated to 15%-ish, which is normal drivetrain losses. The R56's we have dynoed was about 10WHP less than engine HP was rated to. So either they are using some magic lubricant or underrating the engines.

Yeah, it can be very tough to compare, given all the variables, but your answer pretty much answers my question.

Thanks, Jeff.

BTW, has anyone put a stock "base" 6-speed Cooper on a dyno?

WE have done each year and A/T and 6-spd. Jeff can provide more dyno plots or links to them if you want.

Thanks again!
