Bumper Bully to protect rear bumper during parallel parking
So I'd like to purchase a bumper bully to protect the R56 MC when parking on the street in NYC or leaving in a garage (they still seem to mess up your $^%^)
I was looking into this:

It's not a permanent fixture. lol
- I don't live in NYC but travel there 3-4 times a week for my NY Rangers season tix.....my bumper always get fux0r3d.

You don't drive around with it hanging off your car. It sits in your boot and when you park, or just before you park you take it out and drape it over your bumper...it's a lifesaver.
Really? And how exactly would you feel if you saw somebody 'tapping' your MINI or your Vette, "just to see if it would get damaged"? Fine? Nah, didn't think so.

Looks like it should work real well protecting the back bumper from others hitting it.
Although it might encourage some to just keep hitting it with their car front bumper as a challenge too.

NY! Wow. That's a pain in the behind.
How do you feel about having a trailer hitch welded on?
I did it on a VW.
Idiots will hit the hitch, not your car.
Some hitches are removable, so you can take the main piece off if not in town.
I'd consider doing that again if I had to park in the city.

Interesting this pops up again. I thought I would
need a new topic.
Yesterday I put the (painted) tow hook onto my bumper
(getting that sticker from aestetic creations). I had
a spare little cover from my old bumper.
That would be the bumper that was smashed by the
cellphone talking smashed on xanax (I think) 'tard
in the direct tv van.
The guy that painted my bumper did the best job humanly possible.
I've known him a long time and really he's the best that there is in
my opinion.
You can hardly tell it. I mean, you look at it in bright sun, you're like,
hmmmmmmmm, is it slightly different because of the repaint, or because
the sunlight angle is different on the bumper.
Well, I can for sure answer this now. I put the old little hatch cover
on, and guess what. VERY DIFFERENT ON THE HUE.
The color is exactly the same, but, it is not the same.
If you get my meaning. Because the clear coat can not be applied
by a human exactly the way it was done in the factory.
I'm cool with it because it makes it more look like
WOW what inflates if i pull this thing?
But, for sure, you get these bumpers repainted - you can tell it.
Even on a perfect job.
And the darker the color the more you are going to be able to tell.
Sorry for rambling on.

Toolazy . . .
What a shame that there are so many uninformed non-newyorkers on this forum.
Only those of us who park our cars in NYC or relinquish them to parking garage attendants can begin to know the horror. I saw a thread like this in a BMW M3 forum, and people were horrified at the thought of riding aroud with a BumperBully hanging off of their pecious M3.
Anyway, having taken ownership of a beautiful new Mini, I was pondering getting a Bumper Bully myself. And I'm curious about a few things.
1) Did you get one, how does it fit?
2) Does anyone know if you can get them at an auto parts store, or only online?
3) I have a convertible with a tailgate. Does it work just as well with the straps underneath the tailgait?
I took my pristine new MCSc to Manhattan last weekend and parked it on Central Park West. Nice spot. I was in the first spot, so no one could park behind me, but there was a ton of room in front of me . . . enough for perhaps another Mini, maybe a normal subcompact, if you were REALLY good. So while I'm sitting there, having just parked. This lady pulls up in a small SUV and wants to parellel park in the way-too-small spot in front of me. I decided to sit there while she attempted to park, just in case she hit me. She made several lame attempts to back it in, not even coming close to fitting her car in, and comingvery close to my front bumper. Finally, I just leaned on the horn. She took off.
On another occasion, I drove my car (not the Mini) into a garage and handed over the keys. The attendant immediately got in the car and parked it. Right in front of me, while several other customers were watching, while he was parking my car, he proceeded to back my car into the car behind it. I screamed at him, "Hey, what are you doing? You just hit that othercar."
He looked me right in the eye and said, "No I didn't". Then he pulled the car forward about two feet and once again backed it into the other car. When I, as well as the 3 or four other customers with me, accused him of hitting the other car a second time, he flat out denied it. I went to get the manager and brought him to where the guy was parking cars, and told him what happened. Again, he denied it, even thought one of the other customers (who was still there) confirmed the eye-witness account. I figured now that I had accused the guy of bumping my car, there was no way I was leaving it there with him. I got my keys and left with the car, never to return again.
So . . . about that Bumper Bully

yes a 4 year thread but I'm still using the Bumper Bully - not on a daily basis anymore but it fits the rear of my MC very well - of course nothing is going to protect the corners if someone cuts the wheel too soon while backing in behind me but I'm happy with my purchase
Regarding the convertible I'm not sure what to tell you - maybe someone else can chime in who has a convertible. - I had convertibles as loaners before and I think it should be okay - worst case you shape it into an arc and push it back against the rear seats
I bought in online at bumperbully.com back in July 2008 (love Gmail search) and it has held up well even with groceries and other crap piled on top of it for the last 4.5 years.
