Thanks that is helpful. Looks like there is even a little more information on the comparison here: http://www.miniusa.com/?emailview=jc...t_Comparison-m

and here: http://www.miniusa.com/?emailview=jc...mpare_Models-i

I would definitely prefer the JCW motor over the MCS I plan to order, but the fuel efficiency is going to be the deal breaker. I'm looking for a fuel efficient car that's a blast to drive, I think I can get that w/ the MCS. If I were looking for more power, I'd probably have to take a hard look at the Mazdaspeed 3. Don't mean to be blasphemous, I realize depending on one's point of view that's comparing apples to oranges, but I still think it's worth mentioning.

It's anyone's guess at this point, but a lot of folks seem to think that the factory JCW will get pretty much the same mileage as the MCS. This seems to be true of the Stage I kit (relative to the standard S).

I think the real 'variable' for mileage is how you drive it. But I'm betting that if you run the JCW on the freeway at 62 mph, you'll still get close to (or over) 40mpg. Now, if you drive it like you stole it, you'll get much, much worse mileage, and the JCW may encourage you to drive that way. But much the same can be said for the standard MCS, which is a great car.

Totally agree with this...

I owned a Audi S4 with a twin turbo V6, after extensive upgrades to the intake, ecu, turbo plumbing, and exhaust I got basically the same gas mileage driving conservatively (i.e. freeway cruising, creeping around town) as before.

The biggest thing is really weight here - if the JCW is considerably heavier than the regular MCS then you are going to see a hit. Doesn't seem like an issue here, as bigger rotors, a trick intake and exhaust are not going to exact a weight penalty.

One other difference with added options.... If you want Sirius and order it as a factory install, it only comes with one year of service.

Hey Diablito, did you happen to catch a picture of the rear wing on the Hardtop versus the Clubman JCW?

Some question on the Rear Wing of the JCW WORKS Hardtop wing?

Or I'm not looking in the right places!

Good thread, Thanks.

literally 2 days after i place the order for my S, the JCW cooper becomes available. LOL. im not too mad though. I added the jcw tuning/suspension so that somewhat took the edge off the pain.
good job with the posting of the chart btw!
very detailed.

my ride just got off the boat and should be at my dealer next week! oW!

Me too, ...to be honest I am not sure how I feel about that. I love the JCW for it's performance, yet it's about $7k more than my MCS w/ all the options i'd want to put on the JCW (that I put on my MCS).

I am thinking that if I really want a sleeper, i'll just purchase the Alta twin-turbo kit that claims 400hp. Then My MCS will be waaaay faster than any stock JCW. I think they want about $3,500 for the kit. It's pretty sweet. ..I am thinking I may consider it after I get my bonus next year.

The R56 with the Tuning kit works great, lots of fun...400hp sounds like a ALOT of FUN! but may work much better on a Challenge Engine vs. a MCS Engine, you know what I mean?...

I took a clip of the exhaust sound on the R55 Factory JCW is a link on this picture...bitty clip/

i'll have to research it a bit, ...400hp is very tempting. If they guarantee that or close on an MCS engine ..I may just get that kit and forget about spending money on 1/2 a dozen various engine upgrades. ...my main concern is how safe for the engine it is, I mean I don't want 400hp at the risk of pushing my engine to the point of serious failure.

Ya think? The MINI was not built to handle 300HP let alone 400HP and to try and put that much power in it is total lunacy if you intend driving it regularly.

It may not have been built to handle that kind of HP in it's stock form, yet w/ the right combination of mod's it may very well be able to handle that kind of power. I don't think either of us can say what the reliability of the engine would be after a twin turbo install. It may be 100% fine, and it may not. I would assume that the manufacturer of the kit (Alta) would have researched it. Anyway, nothing I plan on doing anytime in the near future, yet it's a neat product to be aware of. I'd have to hear about other's success and have a full engine warranty before I ever installed this Alta twin turbo kit.

I'd love to hear more about this from the Alta rep' whose on these boards?
